These three appeals make the speech livelier and let the listener or reader connect with the speaker. Ethos is an appeal that deals with the speakers’ credibility. The President makes the first appeal to ethos in the beginning of the paragraph by stating, “I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed and mindful for the sacrifices borne by our ancestors.” He just telling us that he is thankful to us that we have elected him as our president to tackle all the problems that his country is facing. There was another statement that really built his ethos. He mentioned that there was once a time when a black man, like his father, would not be served in public restaurants.
Critical Commentary This piece is Barack Obama’s victory speech in Chicago, after winning the recent presidential elections. President Obama begins the speech with the word ‘tonight’, bringing his audience to reflect on what had just happened at that present time. The president uses positive phrases such as ‘won the right’, ‘perfecting’ and ‘moves forward’. This creates positive energy and in this context, provokes patriotism. The use of the word ‘forward’ also shows that Obama is prepared and is looking toward the future.
As Obama was already president at the time of the speech, he did not need to worry about convincing people to vote for him. To the reader, it seems to be reassurance that voters made the right choice. The purpose essay is to inspire “We, the people, will together rebuild our country”. Obama persuasively tries to unite the country so that they may build a better nation and a better life for themselves. Obama uses pathos in stirring an emotional response in paragraph 2.
Both of them are addressing their speech when America is in tough situation. So they choose to put the American dreams, their glorious tradition- democracy, the love of their country and the vital role America will take in the near future. He tries to convey a sense of trustworthiness because if the nation doesn’t trust him, they will never feel comfortable during his term in office. Kennedy uses strategies like pathos, antithesis, and parallelism to help interpret his goals to the people and form a good relationship with the nation based on trust. Throughout the course of his speech, President Kennedy uses several persuasive appeals to inspire and gain the trust of his audience. However, Kennedy effectively uses emotional language to make his audience feel involved in his goals as President.

For many years, he has been honored(with the title)as instead of putting “as” try putting “of the Founding Father of the United States. In three important ways, Washington helped shape the beginning of this(our) evolving civilization.
In his first statement he said, “I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.” In this statement he has said what he was there to do. He is speaking out for freedom. This speech is one among few to demonstrate the freedom our nation was built upon. We are a nation of democracy and our nation was built on the fact that we have the right to “alter and institute new government” (Congress) . Dr. Martin Luther King’s speeches and demonstrations would provoke a change in the minds and hearts of the American people.
Despite few of its members ever having worked together before, Obama realised that by building a team that genuinely wanted him to win he could organize them far more effectively knowing they had his best interests at heart. Michelle Obama said that she loved her husband more now than four years ago, this was the most sentimental part of her speech, showing that he was both a political man and a family man.
