Unit 4222-374 promote active support Outcome 1 Understand how active support translates values into person centred practical action with an individual Compare the characteristics associated with active support and the hotel model in relation to an individual’s support The characteristics of active support basically means to draw the individuals into their plan of care and to include them into any decisions being make about them. This basically goes back to treating an individual in a holistic way and treating them as a whole and make sure they are encouraged into activities and to promote independence. The ‘Hotel model’ just means that certain things are done with no real consent and everything is done for them, which means the individual may lose some independence and the ability to care for themselves. So a comparison would mean stating which model is bes for the individual and why that comparison is the best. Identify practical changes that could be mad within a service setting to promote and individual’s independence In promoting individual independence, the aim would be to develop confidence with well-being.
As a carer I would discuss the options and choices available to the individual to allow them an informed choice regards their care. 1.2 Explain how effective communication affects all aspects of working in adult social care settings. Communication in adult social care is key to the client being happy by having all of their needs met. With communication the client can say what they would like to eat, where they would like to go, and other day to day things we take for granted. We can also get to understand the client by having good
Taking into account the opinions of others and listeneing properly to their input will encourage a healthy team and also give the person involved control of whos and what input they would like in their support. Features of effective team performance, are having the team interacting and empowering each other through discussion and suggestion, this enables the team through meetings and every day events to put ideas forward and develop them to see what works and what does not, as some people believe that they way they do things is the only way which is not the case. There are several challenges’ that can form between developing and established teams, as everyone has their strengths but with that comes some allowable weakness. When these are identified it is my job to nurture strengths and set goals to overcome any weaknesses I do this through observation, meetings, supervision and appraisals. Also through ongoing course work to keep up to date with legislation and any changes to legislation to comply with CQC 3.
Unit LD 303 Promote active support Outcome 1 Understand how active support translates values into person-centred practical action with an individual 1. There are many characteristics associated with active support and the hotel model in relation to an individual’s support. With hotel support this would mean that the service users are spectators to their care. This is just a 'new' word for institutional care. The care which is provided for the service users would be tailored around staff instead of the service users needs.
Promote active support LD203 1.1 Explain how the key characteristics of active support differ from the hotel model The hotel model is where by the staff take over and the service user is a spectator of their own lives however active support encourages the service user to take active participation in every part of their lives, it provides the support that is needed to meet the needs of the service users. 1.2 Define the terms: a) Promoting independence:- is to encourage individuals to do as much as they can for themselves, support them to make informed choice with little or no assistance. b) informed choice:- that individuals are empowered to consider a range of options by providing a verity of information, they own decisions, and share responsibility for the outcomes.
Kealey Clark UNIT. 302 C Describe how my own values, beliefs, and experiances may affect my working practice. Everybody has different values, beliefs, and preferences. What you believe in, whats acceptable, important, and desirable is an essential part of who you are. My belief is to have a aim in life, and work towards it, whether it be a aim in life to work towards, whether it be higher qualifications to better my job prospects or working towards bettering my career path, each is a great belief for me to acheive as this will be beneficial to my children and improve my way of life.
Through being a respectful person and taking an active interest in what the people within my care enjoy/celebrate/prefer then I can make sure that I do not discriminate against their choice of religion, their ethnic background or choices of leisure activities. By constantly keeping myself updated on care plans, guidelines, risk assessments then I will be well informed of any potential stumbling blocks. Attending training sessions will also help by raising my awareness of this too, by gathering information and actively taking part in sessions designed to help me understand and relate to others beliefs and values. It is also my job that when I have the information to help promote it within the care setting too, to make sure other employees are aware of it and the service users too. As each has different preferences and interests and these must be respected by each of them to their ‘housemates’
Task B Why is reflective practice important? Reflective practice is important as it allows us to build on our strengths and identify our weaknesses. In doing this we can develop ourselves further and in turn this will reflect on the support we give to our colleagues’ and service users. Also by assessing our actions and judgements we can gain more knowledge and be receptive to different strategies or approaches. Overlooking an event afterwards and questioning yourself not as a criticism but in a way to develop yourself further.
I could find it hard to accept other staff members values and beliefs, and feel mine are the right ones. 2.1. Constructive feedback gives people the chance to develop within there role if its needed. If the feedback is good then the person will feel good and confident, but could take offence to constructive feedback. In my setting we have regular supervision with the team leader who will give constructive and good feedback.
Unit 4222- 374 Promote Active Support LD 303 1.1 Compare the characteristics associated with active support and the hotel model in relation to an individual's support. The characteristics of active support can be defined by supporting an individual to be involved in their care and making the person at the forefront of any decisions made and respecting their wishes in a person centered approach, by working in this way the individual will feel empowered, improve their self worth and their confidence will grow as the care reflects their choices (likes & dislikes) and they will be reassured that they will be cared for in a way that reflects them as an individual, promotes their independence and encourages active
