UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX | Case Study: Captain Edith Strong | | | Matthew Kramer | 8/8/2014 | | People in today’s workplace no matter where that is need to feel appreciated and wanted. This is no different in a police force where the work its self is highly strenuous and time consuming. If employees are not made to feel like they are appreciated or doing a good job then morale and work effort will suffer as a result. In a philosophical approach Captain Strong needs to get the pulse of the department if you will. Meaning she needs to find out what the problems are and their root and find a way to be able to at least come to a happy medium with everyone on the issues.

Police Officers Assaulted or Killed in the Line of Duty Becoming a law enforcement officer can be one of the most rewarding jobs in the world. However, being a law enforcement officer can also be a very dangerous job. Statistics show that officers killed or assaulted in the line of duty is on the rise. The goal of policing has five basic goals: enforce laws, preserve the peace, prevent crimes, protect civil rights and civil liberties and provide services. The men and woman of law enforcement risk their lives daily to make sure the citizens in their area are safe.
Police officers are stressed for many different reasons, low pay, frequent shift changes, not able to spend time with their families, problems with their supervisor, not able to get proper rest due to different shifts, and not being able to spend time with their families. From this police officers need training and education on how to deal with the many different challenges they face daily on the street and in their homes. With proper training, education and support police officers will be able to perform their job much better. Some officers handle stress different ways, when faced with what seem hard and stressful to one officer, may seem easy to another officer. If I were to shout or be bad tempered this could then make me unapproachable to the children. This could mean they fear asking questions and them not fully comprehending what has been asked of them. I think it’s very important to have professional ability to recognise when and where children’s development isn’t quite as expected and know referral procedures that provide support for a child’s identified needs. In my fostering career I had provided empathy on many occasions. In my opinion a good practitioner needs to have ability to continue to learn and reflect to achieve.
Bowlby proposed that an internal working model (IWM) developed in childhood will determine or affect later adult relationships and how successful they are. Ainsworth’s strange situation helped develop three main types of attachment: secure, resistant and avoidant. Secure children develop a positive model of themselves and relationships as their primary caregiver was sensitive, emotionally responsive and supportive. Resistant children have parents who were inconsistent in their care giving, resulting in the child having a negative image of themself - often seeking attention but not finding comfort when they receive it. Avoidant children often have rejecting parents, which leads to them developing an internal model which makes them think they are unacceptable and unworthy.
The rules and regulations that are set differ from each station. Some stations are stricter than others; the other officers and their relationship with each other are diverse. Some stations the officers have a closer relationship with one another meaning that if an officer was to make a mistake, it would have a huge impact on their superiors. “No matter what we back up our fellow officers when we need to but there is no looking the other way or letting one make a mistake and not take the fault for it,” said Deputy
This can cause conflicts and resistance. For this reason it is very important that social workers, foster parents, and natural parents be sensitive and support the child through the separation process. (Crosson-Tower, 2008, p.351) The transitory nature of the foster care system has been seen as a problem especially for children who already have attachment issues. These moves can create even greater problems. (As cited in Crosson-Tower, 2008, p.351).
