The police personality fosters and “us vs. them” mentality that cops are always the good guys and everyone else is a potential bad guy (The Brotherhood). There is a subculture in Police work that in some cases can carry severe penalties towards officer’s if they were to “rat” on another officer. This subculture code of “Don’t give up another cop” has been described as the code of silence, or the blue curtain of secrecy (Pollock 119). In this subculture police officers are often ostracized or deemed unfaithful to the badge if they were to turn on another officer and testify against them during an investigation. Police officers must trust other officers to back them up in a struggle that could potentially be a life or death situation.
Today’s law enforcement officers face a multitude of dangers in their everyday duties that rival the threat of getting shot. For example: ▪ Foot pursuits ▪ Vehicle pursuits ▪ Responding code 3 (lights and siren) ▪ Making an arrest ▪ Traffic control ▪ Heat stroke ▪ Stress ▪ Duty equipment ▪ Biohazard exposure/sun exposure Officers are exposed to these dangers on a daily basis. That said, police officers have training and physical tools to deal with these settings. They go in knowing it is dangerous or could become dangerous. Police officers are trained to contain or diffuse a situation in ways the average person isn't.
Police Brutality Law enforcement officer’s credo is, “If you need me, I will be there for you. I will risk injury or death to get to you, because that is my promise” Police brutality remains one of the most serious and divisive human rights violations in the United States. The excessive use of force by police officers persists because of overwhelming barriers to accountability. This fact makes it possible for officers who commit human rights violations to escape due punishment and often to repeat their offenses. Racism, a big part of police misconduct, has become a major problem in the police force.
Ethical Considerations for the Investigator and Prosecutor in Homicide and Rape The investigator and prosecutor play very critical roles, roles that are only fairly fulfilled if all parties are as ethical as possible. Failing to act ethically can lose a case, set a criminal free or could even mean someone innocent going to prison. While ethics in every single type of case are important we are going to examine homicide and rape. Both homicide and rape leave the public hungry for answers. We must be sure that finding those answers are done ethically from the crime scene to trial.
Personal Side of Policing With the role of law enforcement in today’s world police officers take on more responsibilities, are put into stressful situations and force themselves to deal with some of the toughest decisions one can ever imagine. The environment in which a police officer works can determine how slight or severe these factors affect his or her daily policing duties. Every police officer has the ability to use judgment when responding to a situation. This judgment is could determine whether the offender will be warned, cited, arrested, or even have force used against him. All factors of the situation should be taken into consideration when using this discretion.

The two types of personality traits and they are unique trait viewpoints, socialization and experience. The unique trait viewpoints are racism, authoritarianism, hostility, and loyalty. These are viewpoints that will enable a police officer at doing his or her job well. Socialization and experience are viewpoints that can go either way if debated.

Gangs have chapters or cells all over the U.S. and abroad. Gangs tend to center themselves under a strict “street code”, that if you break, or interrupt, usually leads to some sort of attack or even taking someone’s life. Racial profiling is a form of discrimination by which law enforcement uses a person’s race or cultural background as the primary reason to suspect that the individual has broken the law. Racial profiling is a serious human rights problem affecting millions of people in the United States in even the most routine aspects of their daily lives. The debate over racial profiling has become a central element in a much larger history of adversarial relationships between the police and communities of color. Already-existing tensions between police and communities of color became heightened over the past two decades as allegations of racial profiling by law enforcement agents against people of color increased in number and frequency. A "profile" is a coherent set of facts - known conditions and observable behavior that indicate a particular individual may be engaged in criminal activity.
