We tell them to not get mad and that it will be okay when we know we have been through that situation before and it was not okay, where on the other hand you have a rapper singing about not letting anyone hurt him because he has a gun. We expect our children to come out of the womb knowing the difference between right and wrong but contradict ourselves right in front of them. We tell them not to smoke and drink while we are sitting on the patio smoking whereas the celebrity is saying how he got drunk and high and it was fun. Children are going to follow what they know and once they get used to doing things a certain way, it is hard for them to change that. I cannot tell my son that he is not to drink and drive and he just saw mommy drink a glass of wine.
In other words, Rex cares about his kids and puts in effort to come up with these stories, just to make them happy. When parents truly love their children, they do not intentionally abuse them in any way. Only once throughout the entire memoir, had Rex abused his child and when he did, Jeannette “…expected him to turn and walk away…” (220). Jeannette expects her dad to simply walk away, implying that he has never whipped her before. Of Course the only reason that he did it was to discipline Jeannette, so he had never once took out his anger on his kids, even during his drunk rages; he cared about them
When Sam uses the word “heroic” while he was talking about sportsmanship, he’s attempting to have parents see the importance of sportsmanship by raising the definition of sportsmanship by connecting it to something extraordinary like hero. Sam also compares sportsmanship as a model for life attempting to make parents see the importance of sportsmanship and stop the behaviour that will destroy sportsmanship in both the children and the sport. Sam uses the phase “good parents won’t come and coach will hang up their whistle” attempting to have parents sees that if they still behave badly, the team won’t be here for their children anymore Coach Sam lastly attempted to bring sympathy from
Lord Chesterfield’s apprehensive warning shows the adoration he has for his young son, who has traveled far away from his home to receive a college education. By using anaphora and metaphor, he is informing his son that the world he is about to dive into will not always be temperate, but can easily get hot. Chesterfield, just like any other dad, truly has his son’s best interest at heart. The author’s diction demonstrates how he understands the trials and tribulations that his son will imminently be experiencing. He “know{s}” that “advice {is} generally” “unwelcome” and he “know{s}” that its not “followed”, however he “know{s}” that teenagers still “want it.” By using anaphora he is telling his son that he accepts the fact his advice will be rejected on the outside, but will be stored in a memory bank on the inside.
Although both articles are similar when it comes to their sarcastic tones and the general topics of their writings, the fact that Kinahan believes that youth is non-competitive due to fear of violence and Jones believes that we use the Internet instead of facing violence face to face, is what distinguishes the two pieces from one another. Kinahan believes that “America’s youth are becoming fat, lazy, and non competitive because competition is viewed as ‘bad’” (344). He believes that parents are ultimately babying their kids, and sheltering them from any type of violence that arises in the sports world. Children are growing up and thriving on the idea that competition
Thrust into the real world with our confidence almost permanently shattered, we are expected to be successful and important when prior to that we were always told the opposite. Bullying harms us not only in our youth, but for the rest of our lives. In the poem “To This Day” by Shane Koyczan, we hear the story of children who have faced the effects of being bullied. A little girl for something as foolish as a birthmark on her face and a boy for thinking pork chops and karate chops were the same. Age did not change the words that cut through that poor little girl.
Jim also displayed the image of father that would give up his own life for his boy when stayed with Tom after he got shot. The doctor saw it and was grateful for “a nigger that was a better nuss or faithfuller, and yet he was resking his freedom to do it” (289). Huck took on a father type roll when he decided he was going to educate Jim with stories about kings and such, but respected Jim when he just didn’t get about King Solomon, “So I went talking about other kings and let Solomon slide” (155). There can be no dispute about Huck pulling in and risking his life, as well hell, “to set a free nigger free” (292), just as a father would do for his son. What was different about the relationship of Huck and Jim is that it was not expected by society, but it was based on mutual respect and trust that earned.
want the viewers to see how much a man will do for his family. Many boys are raised to protect their family, to be tough, and to look after their younger siblings if they have them. With that being said, those boys soon turn into men with morals of protecting the ones they love. Martin Luther King Jr. would disagree with the way John Q. handled the situation. John Q. used some violence on his hostages in the attempt to help his son get the heart transplant.
“You just hold your head high and keep your fists down.” Pg 76 Atticus is teaching his children to be proud of who they are and turn the other cheek, by not starting fights. I select this quote because it teaches family values. 5. "This time we aren’t fighting the Yankees, we're fighting our friends. But remember this, no matter how bitter things get, they're still our friends and this is our home" Pg 76 This quote shows us that Atticus does not want his problem (defending Tom Robinson) to become a problem for Scout and Jem.
He thought the judge was going to give him custody of the kids so he wouldn’t have to pay child support and alimony. So then he wanted to start trying to come around and spend time with the kids, asking me do I need anything, do I need to go any places. I laughed at it all cause I knew I had the Lord on my side and I wasn’t about to let the Devil pick on me anymore than what the Devil has already done. That’s why right now to this day I laugh at him when he tries to knock me down, he didn’t succeed the first time so why should I let him succeed this time around. Going back to school is the best thing happening to me.
