Celebrity/Politician Trend “Star-Studded Philippine Government” The vast influence of many celebrities nowadays not only gain them many fans, but also opportunities that can involve them in changing the country itself. Having as much fame as a celebrity already gives you an edge with people, which is why the road to politics would be easily accessible to those working in show business. Although politics and show business are quite far from each other in terms of what they induce to the nation, it is undeniable that celebrities are using the admiration and respect of being a celebrity commends and is truly an asset any politician should have. The Philippines has been a host to many celebrity-politicians in the past decades. Who would not recognize the face of the actor Bong Revilla? Once an icon we see in action movies, now present in one of the seats of the senate. Or how about Vilma Santos-Recto? The well-known Star for All Seasons is now the governor of the region of Batangas and has served for two terms. These are merely a few well-known examples, people no one would be likely to miss. They’ve done their part, and I may even say that they actually did a good job at it. But there is a question we must ask, something that we must evaluate ourselves. Did they really do a good job? Do they really want to serve the people? Or did they just enter the world of politics to have a different job, not too far away from the spotlight? There are many questions, some may be not right to ask but nevertheless must be answered. Now let’s make one point clear. Being a successful celebrity does not actually guarantee that one would be good at handling people. They can make people feel what they want them to feel, but aside from that, can they also make the living conditions of those same people meet what is expected of them? Politics is a different matter and everyone knows
