After Danny and Solomon meet in prison, the film depicts Archer’s search for the diamond and Vandy’s pursuit for his family. Thereafter, Blood Diamond paints the bloody portrait of Sierra Leone’s civil war of the 1990’s with the film’s most successful moments revolve around the pain undergoing there which the journalist, Maddy Bowen, attempts to enlighten America’s ignorant ways through an exposé in order to cause the ebb and flow of conflict diamonds. “the people back home wouldn’t buy a ring if they knew it cost someone else their hand,”[1] which Bowen highlights exemplifying the unknown sacrifice surrounding diamonds and the atrocity that America is yet to be informed upon. Nor one can ignore the greedy lust for diamonds fuelling Africa’s civil war, also providing the plot’s macguffin for the film. The film explores a meaningful theme, whether it’s the conflict diamonds affect on Africa, the hardship of a man’s desire to get his family back or just the painful lifestyle, one can be moved by such factual occurrences in Africa.
Whenever Chol was introduced to loud noise, my teacher would put her hands over her ears to present a frightened gesture, and to portray a child. From hot-seating Chol, I learnt that Chol had a very rough time and that emotionally he was destroyed. I also learnt that Chol was a refugee and that his home was invaded by soldiers; his mother had gone into hiding and he was alone for quite some time before his uncle came to take him away. He has hopes to become a soldier to beat the ones who turned his life upside down. I noticed that when he spoke of his hopes and dreams, he would become more at ease and that he had set himself a goal or target to help him cope with new surroundings.
Parents who are sports aggressive really need to get their act together, as their behaviours are seen outrageous to others and their seen as ‘arses’ which is demonstrated in the photo accompanying the newsletter. Sam really pushes that Parents are teaching their children very bad qualities, ‘isn’t good sportsmanship a model of life?’ maybe it isn’t to sports aggressive parents. It’s time for all parents to remember that children learn from you. Sam illustrates that best coaches and parents encourage their kids to play fair, to have fun and to concentrate on helping the team while at the same time polishing their own skills. Once again ‘what sort of parent are you’.
“Suddenly you find yourself tongue twisted and your speech stammering as you seek to explain to your six year old daughter why she can’t go to the public amusement park that has just been advertised on television, and see tears welling up in her eyes when she is told that Funtown is close to colored children.”The only real emotion the clergymen felt is guilt. They were appalled with what they saw; they are ruining the lives of innocent people just because of their skin color. King puts the image of a little girl in the head of the reader, and the reader feels heartbroken. There is nothing worse than telling your kid they can’t do something because of what color their skin is. Is that fair?
Invaders, who were referred to as the Revolutionary United Front (RUF), took Solomon as prisoner, forcing he and other men of his village, to work in diamond mines in search for diamonds. While working in the diamond mines, Solomon discovers a large rare, pink diamond. The discovery of this diamond quickly unfolds into a bloody battle between the powerful and the powerless in a
The rebels use the diamonds to fund their weapons. In the film Blood Diamond, innocent people are killed or forced to work slaves in the diamond rivers and children are taken away to become cruel, inhumane child soldiers. Director Edward Zwick uses techniques such as cross cutting with music, documentary style, close up and over-the-shoulder shots to demonstrate the strong idea of the exploitation of people for illegal conflict diamonds that fund the civil wars in Sierra Leonne. Firstly, Zwick uses cross-cutting and music to create a strong link between the West and Africa in the exploitation of people for diamonds. During the RUF invasion, cross cutting is used in conjunction with loud Hip Hop music and the screams of fear from innocent villagers.
A movie called Blood Diamond that shows the bloody story behind the “precious stones” in Africa. According to the messy situation in Africa, there are two types of armies due to the anarchy: the one is the Government Army and the other one is the Revolution Army (Campino). For terrorist organizations, diamonds are viewed as an ideal currency, due to the traditional closed nature of the diamond industry. They use diamonds to trade with buyers to get weapons and equipment. The way they get the diamonds is by slaughtering villages and capturing young men to excavate diamonds.
