Bill Cosby: A Biography On July 12th, 1937, the soon-to-be number one father of the nation was born. Bill Cosby was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When he was little, Bill saw little of his father, a mess steward in the Navy. His mother was a major influence on him and helped him become the man he is today. In the tenth grade, he joined the Navy and continued finishing high school via a corresponding course. After Cosby was discharged, he enrolled in Temple University in Philadelphia. He had high hopes of becoming a physical education teacher. He supported himself by tending a local bar at night. He soon started to show off his home-grown humor there and within a year or so, landed himself on “The Tonight Show”. It was the year of 1963, and Bill Cosby had begun to revolutionize American comedy. Bill Cosby is one of the most influential comedians in the second part of the 20th century. His live appearances have been selling out night clubs, concert halls, and arenas across the nation for four centuries. “The Cosby Show” was, as Coretta Scott King described it,” the most positive portrayal of black family life that has ever been broadcast. “ “The Cosby Show” enjoyed its many years of number one ratings. Bill Cosby was a crusader throughout his career for a better world and his New York Times Bestseller, Fatherhood, sold more than over 2 million hardcover copies and over 1 million paperbacks. It was also the fastest selling New York Times Bestseller. Bill Cosby is an inspiration for the entire nation. Along with his amazing talent, Bill Cosby has inspired a nation with his comedy, his charm, and his will to love.
