Basketball Dreams Jabarri Smith is a young talented basketball player who could be drafted in the NBA, if he plays his cards right. Jabarri isn't your typical teenager; he comes from a family of poverty and was raised by his single mother who lives in a two-bedroom apartment with his three younger siblings. Jabarri's mom works day and night to provide for her children and is hopeful that one day Jabarri could be a professional basketball player for the NBA and save them from poverty. Jabarri knows he's good at basketball and is one of the top high school players in Northern California; however, his grades aren't so great. Everyone knows Jabarri could have a great future and has many options from going to college then getting drafted or going straight to the NBA. Coach Stanfield from Simmons College believes that Jabarri has a lot of potential in basketball but the only problem are his grades and how Jabarri's not willing to work hard enough to earn the grades he needs to play ball. Coach Stanfield is offering Jabarri a good future because he's willing to help Jabarri with his grades in school and let him pursue his dreams for basketball. Stanfield is ranked 25th in the NCAA and believes that it will take a lot of hard work for Jabarri to excel in school and get drafted for the NBA at the same time. He will also suffer the consequences if he doesn't make those good grades in which he would not be able to play on the Simmons College team for a season or two. Stanfield has Jabarri's best interest because he's seen talented athletes but they crumble under the academic pressure or just quit school when they don't get drafted in the NBA. If Jabarri chooses to study he could have a brighter future even if he doesn't make it to the NBA, so he still has a chance to help his family out from
