Controlling Our Second Constitutional Right Patrick L. Shartzer February 28, 2012 GE217 Abstract Our second amendment right to bear arms is being taken away bits at a time. I am all about gun control as long as it is in moderation. Some states have taken it too far though. Take California, for example. They have prohibited the ownership of firearms with magazines that hold more than ten rounds. That prohibits me from moving there or even visiting because I own such types of firearms and I keep one of them in my vehicle. I am not one of those “gun-toting”, “bigger than you because I have a gun” kind of person. I have them for personal protection, target practice, and competition/sport shooting. I proceeded to tell her about the statistics and reassured her that I wasn’t a criminal. I also explained to her that I carry a firearm for self-protection and I have guns locked in a safe that I use for target shooting. After that everything was fine. She even went out and purchased a handgun to keep around the house. I’m not saying that I disagree with gun control. I am saying it should be more practical and shouldn’t scare people from protecting themselves because they don’t want to jump through all of the hoops the government lays out for us.
