Its name comes from Mahlemuts, an Alaskan tribe that would raise and cared for them. (terrificpets) 2000 to 3000 years ago the Eskimos of Alaska highly valued the dogs as they were their only form of transportation. They pulled not only light traveling sleds, but they also hauled heavy loads of food and supplies for the Arctic people. The Alaskan malamute has a thick, coarse guard coat. The undercoat is dense, from one to two inches in depth, oily and woolly which protects them from cold weather.

Unfortunately Snow Leopards are endangered species and there is only 4500-7500 left. There are several interesting facts about snow leopards. The tail on every snow leopard is more than a yard long, and they do not roar like another other big cat.
Surviving Cold Conditions This essay will discuss the two types of foxes, the British red fox and the arctic fox. I will mainly focus on how animals adapt to living in hot and cold climates, how the surface area affects temperature loss, how also the volume: ratio affects heat loss and furthermore how to calculate the surface area to volume: ratio? These are the main points that will be conversed in the thesis. How animals adapt to living in cold climates? Initially, Arctic foxes are very well adapted to cold climates.
The Native tribes of Saskatchewan were centered on the abundance of bison. The majority of tribes were nomadic but some more woodland tribes cultivated small crops. There are three main linguistic groups that are present in Saskatchewan tribes, Algonkian, Siouan, and Athapaskan (Dumont 2). The Cree and the Ojibwa were in the Algonkian linguistic group, the Chipewyan were Athapaskan and the Sioux, Dakota, and Assiniboine were Siouan. Before European contact Athapaskan groups were situated in northern Saskatchewan and to the east of Hudson’s Bay (Dumont 2).
The first people of the Arctic, hunted walrus and eat dogs when they went hungry, they also hunter caribou and fish in small groups. The Inuit followed the wales, seals and caribou. The technology was a great difference between the native groups. The people of Atlantic Canada for example constructed fish traps, made bows and arrows, they also made spears, clubs and long stemmed pipes. They made birchbark canoes, show shoes and the unique technology of the toggle head spear.
The fur is dense and wooly, to help them stay warm in their bitterly cold habitat. The fur on their bellies is up to nearly 5 inches long. They have large paws to help it walk on snow. The snow leopard has white, yellowish, or Smokey-gray to black spots and rosettes that are like camouflage to hide them from their prey. The average life span of the snow leopard is 21 years.
The most distinct change in the morphology of the wolf to the domestic dog is the reduction in size of the cranium and snout. Domestic dogs are described as paedomorphic meaning that, they bear juvenile traits of their wolf counterparts (Morey 1994, 343). In addition, domestication caused a strong selection on the reproductive clock, which affected the size of the dogs thus, producing the paedomorphic dog (341). Moreover, early reproduction was selected for thus, fertility is increased deeming early maturation efficient. For instance, wolves become sexually mature after two years thus, they can only breed from the stipulated period (342).
