The essentiality of the front open space in the design considerations of the New Secretariat building: GREEN BUILDING CONSIDERATION: a. While placing the building in the site the direction of the terrain is utilized for that purpose. b. Natural drainage is maintained for that purpose. c. Large rainwater harvesting storage tank is also required and this space is ideally suited for that purpose. Source: IGBC. EARTHQUAKE CONSIDERATION: a. In the time of earthquake the front open space will act as a large refuge area. b. For rescue operation disaster management personnel can gather and formulate rescue operation from that area. FIRE SERVICE CONSIDERATION. a. Underneath the front open space two large fire tanks for the two buildings is kept for supply of the required water at the time of fire. b. This space will also act as maneuvering of the fire tender and will enable easy access for the fire service men to approach the building without any hindrance. (NBC Clause no. 4.6) c. This space will also act as a refuge area at the time of fire (Which is specified in the NBC clause no 1.12.3 as 0.3 sqm per person). LANDSACPING CONSIDERATION: We cannot imagine any landmark building which is devoid of landscaping. A building whatever aesthetically beautiful it may be is not complete without a surrounding lush green landscaping both hard and soft. The landscaping with its elements will enhance the beauty of any building to many more times. The large front open space will serve that purpose and the well designed landscape of the building will be an object of specter for the years to come.
