Nikola Sweet Field Report: “Livable Brisbane” 1.0Introduction 1.1Location The locations of the three urban areas that were studied and visited on the excursion were North Lakes, Teneriffe Urban and Roma Street Parklands. Roma Street Parklands is a lovely and pleasant park with many facilities for families, elderly and suited for many other people. The Parklands has beautiful boardwalks, picnic areas and shady areas. The Parklands is a ‘shortcut’ through to the city and it is also surrounded by Parklands Boulevard. (See appendix 3A) North Lakes was the first stop on the excursion which is located very far away from the city. Even though North Lakes is very cramped it is a stunning and attractive place to live. The second part of the liveability criteria is City designed for subtropical living. Subtropical living addresses house design for Brisbane’s climate. It also describes how future growth in Brisbane will be managed and how our green spaces are preserved. The Clean and green city is the third and final of the liveable criteria. Clean and green city is about energy and water. How they should use renewable energy sources, re-use water, promote clean air, reduce energy use, implement pollution prevention and preserve the natural environment. 3.2 Analysis Roma Street Parklands is a spacious and beautiful park. The park is a away to get to the city quicker, which is a a quick way tot eh CBD. The Parklands has waterfalls, boardwalks, lookouts, shady places. The Parklands promotes the sustainability, a natural and social environment. The park uses rubbish collection and also uses recycled water to keep the plants alive; the re-use of the gray water is good for the drought in Brisbane. The Parklands is very accessible with numerous forms of transport and is also a great way to have a pleasant walk through to the city. (See appendix…show more content…
The boulevard rates second (total of 78) which fits the liveability criteria but doesn’t have very good accessibility like Roma Street Parklands. Teneriffe rates next (total of 76) because it is lacking in the subtropical area. North Lakes rating is the lowest (total of 70) in Accessibility and Active area. The Roma Street Parklands rating exceeds other locations by close to 20 points overall and is the model to which new developments should aspire to. (Refer to table
