We are not allowed to choose what we like to worship and rejected what we do not like. We cannot just worship God for what he has done but also for what he will do. The ideal state of worship is to be close to Isaiah like he was in chapter six of that book of the Bible. When we are lost we need to seek (and hope to find) the holiness of God and become aware of our sin in order to truly worship. Instead of going through the motions at church, we need to truly focus on what we are worshiping.
Religion at one time was very touchy subject in many cultures around the globe, as the world progressed more people became open to religion. Theses effects have lead to a society overflowing with religious moderates. Religious moderates are people who aren't fundamentalists and don't interpret their religious scripture in a literal context. They have tolerance for other religions and beliefs and believe that no faith should be forced upon you. Sam Harris discusses religious moderates and their dogmatic views in his article “The First Ten Pages.” Harris argues that they are the “instability” in our society because moderates believe in something without having factual evidence to prove it.
“The Christian Paradox”: The Hypocrisy of America In “The Christian Paradox: How a faithful nation gets Jesus wrong” (Harper's 15 September 2005), Bill McKibben argues that America, a nation which prides itself on its Christian faith, has very little actual understanding of the religion they claim to follow and adhere to. He claims that instead of acting and behaving in a Christian manner, they follow their own creed and their own ideals, far removed from that of Christianity. A creed preached by televangelists and megachurch preachers, one that emphasizes the self above others. This creed is centralized around the idea that “God helps those who help themselves”, an idea that could not be more opposed to the base ideas of Christianity.
But, alas, people still play the Christianity card. And here’s why: the Bible appeals to ethics. As we all learned in AP Lang, ‘ethos’ is one of the three appeals that effective speakers and writers use in persuasive arguments. Our ethical reasoning is inborn and biased. If we try to mix in logic, we end up with a rhetorical disaster.
This is a precarious title considering the fact that on page 37, Mr. Fay actually says that it is “perfectly OK” for a Christian to have fear when sharing their faith. He even makes mention that the Apostle Paul went to share his faith in “weakness and fear and with much trembling,” which is an allusion to Paul’s words to the Church at Corinth in 1 Corinthians 2:3. Bill Fay also states that he cannot promise the Christian that their fear will “go away completely” when they share the gospel, but that it will “get easier”. With this being said, maybe a better title for the book would have been the converse—“Share Jesus WITH Fear,” but alas, that probably wouldn’t sell as many copies because many Christians are more interested in doing that which is easy rather than that which is
It is not a reliable way. This includes reasoning and making predictions without further testing. Faith is another way that a lot of Christian believers us to seek the truth. The faith based way of seeking the truth is different from the scientific method in that it can answer a lot of questions about the most important truths. (Religious-Science.com 2008) The truths about the purpose of life and that our creator, God wants us to be happy and that he has a plan for each one of us.
Oscar Cruz Jr. Cruz 1 BG Guttierez ENGL 2327 23 February, 2012 Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God In the story Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God in holds a sermon on how your life should be led to with several techniques he tries to grab your attention with his grace and how you would go to heaven. Not everybody believes in god but in my point of view I believe that with the will of the lord everything is possible. Jonathan Edwards throughout the readings tried to scare the readers on how god can do things to people or grasp their life in any part of their time. It shouldn’t be understood in that way because in the bible I reads that god will come for you at the time he is ready. There is no need to be scared to go to heaven because heaven is a better and more peaceful place.

Secularists fear religious zealotry, and believers abhor moral anarchy. In this popular level historical overview of the relationship between church and state, religion and politics, Jon Meacham, the managing editor of Newsweek and a practicing Christian, argues against both extremes. There is, he insists, a well-defined historical common middle ground, what he calls a "sensible center," that best serves the many and varied interests of our country.
Fox does not blame the Christian church for this disconnectedness, but instead believes that the church has, “…either foster[ed] or ignore[d] the continued damage to the earth” (Kinsley 166). The lack of empathy towards groups and beings at the bottom of a hierarchy created and dominated by patriarchy, has in turn created a lack of, “…spirituality of connectedness” and “…strong negative ecological implications” (Kinsley 167). Fox strongly believed a shift in paradigms towards a view of, “…Christ pervading the entire cosmos with sacrality, connectedness and wonder”(Kinsley 168) that emphasizes the sacredness of all creatures, instead of a God only concerned with individual salvation. Fox’s views on a shift in the views of Christianity, I believe, could be extremely beneficial to the modern world. While few Methodists pastors believe in inerrancy, conservatives view scripture as the unique revelation of God. The Bible contains all we need to know to be saved and to live the Christian life. Conservatives believe that the four gospels are the heart of scripture and accurately portray the life of Christ. Christian Ethics- Because of their skepticism of human nature and reason, conservatives believe we must be guided by the principles found in the Old and New Covenants. Christian love must be guided by the moral teachings of scripture and the church.
