He, like all those before and after him, was wondering why God was allowing His chosen people to go through the suffering they were having to endure at the hands of their enemies. He didn’t understand why no matter no matter how much he cries out for God to save them, God has not yet changed the situation. [footnote1] While Habakkuk begins by wondering or worrying about the world around him and God’s seeming indifference, he ends by worshipping God. [footnote2] Habakkuk’s name means to embrace or wrestle. Per usual, his name has to do with the message in his book.
Luther was also disappointed in man and felt that they should take the consequences that go with their sins and hope that these lessons could be taught to them before it would become too late. In expressing his disappointment with the church, Luther goes on to discuss the real ways a man should repentance his sins and not the way the church is having them repent at the current time; which is by having them pay for pardon of their sins and guilt. He states what he believes is to be worthy of god when it comes to recognizing the wrong in something that you have done and now want to be sorry about. He also goes on to state that the pope does not have the power to forgive someone’s sins that is the power of the lord and only him. The pope can only remit sins or guilt by announcing that GOD has actually remitted the guilt.
There is nothing wrong with this, except when it comes to the issue of believing in God. Zagzebski makes a compelling point by discussing how people who are given Pascal’s wager would be motivated to believe in God due to the infinite gain, which is basically an appeal to one’s self-interest. This brings up the fundamental issue I have with Pascal’s wager: if God were to appear before every non-believer’s eyes and tell them to believe in Him or suffer eternal damnation, would these people believe in God just to avoid going

In “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” Edwards brings into question the salvation of anyone who has not been “born again.” He never directly questions his own salvation, but declares that many in the congregation to which he is speaking will soon find themselves burning in hell. The only hope he offers for escaping from the fiery pits of eternal damnation is a metaphorical call to flock to the open arms of Jesus. Considering that he was speaking to a congregation of Puritans, such an ultimatum would seem superfluous: were they not all there for the purpose of seeking God’s mercy? Or perhaps Edwards was speaking to those Puritans like Anne Bradstreet in all their human imperfection. Unlike Edwards, Bradstreet’s writings reveal belief in a loving and forgiving God, one in whom her salvation need not be questioned despite her acknowledged failings and occasional doubt that we saw in “To My Dear Children.” Bradstreet’s imagery of God in “Some Verses upon the Burning” stands in potent juxtaposition to Edwards’ claims: Thou hast an house on high erect, Framed by that might Architect, With glory richly furnished, Stands permanent though this be fled.
As Jesus said, "what God has joined together, let not man separate" Mathew 19:6. We all try to do what the bible tells us we should do, because we need to be the best Christians we can possibly be. But we all sin and times get hard and that is when we need to make decisions as sinners of what we should do, and it may come down to divorce. No one wants to be divorced and have to have their children go through all that pain, but we never know
The American public at the time of the civil war was very religious. Abraham Lincoln recognized that the American publics most profound motives such as reasoning to go to war were lead by their religious beliefs. Lincoln played a masterstroke in the history of American presidency by addressing the public through religious language. One of the points Lincoln makes is that it is strange for men to ask for a just God’s assistance in winning bread through the sweat of other mans faces instead of their very own. Lincoln is preaching that we cannot pass God’s judgement upon others without first thinking about how God would judge us.
Lot of persons don’t want to escape from the cage that it was created around them from the Christianity beliefs. Maybe they are using God just as an example of perfection that they can relay on, or maybe it is for them an example of supreme power that could give help and support in difficult moments. We should not forget all the way that Church made during time, and that all those proofs that gave credibility to Christianity may be all false. If god, as the father of human kind, would have existed, he wouldn’t let all those catastrophes to happen (Katrina, 2004’ Tsunami, and many others…). What kind of father would be the one that let its children to die in such terrible ways!?!
Convicted felons of the world today are not equally privileged as those who are not convicted felons. Many people believe that felons shouldn’t receive another chance due to the crimes that the individual have committed or been found guilty of. Whatever the situation may be, there should always be room for chances. God gives us chance after chance on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis. Acts 13:38 (NIV) states “Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.” This clearly supports the fact that we are human and are going to make mistakes and should be forgiven.
In “A Good Man is Hard to Find” Flannery O'Connor shows us that in some situation the very humans that preach the good lord's name everyday will throw away all their teachings in a instance to save their own life. While in “On Her Catholic Faith” she tells us why her faith is unwavering and that she will never disbelieve, which important because the whole point in religion is to trust God's choices. A religious belief should not be broken easily considering if you slightly dis believe what the holy book tell you it could mean you spiraling into a demon infested hell hole. In the short story “A Good Man is Hard to Find” we see that religion doesn’t turn out to be the most important thing to the grandmother after all. Throughout the story you perceive her as a very religious person, someone who would never give up her faith.
