This is very detailed and horrific because he is saying he won’t be able to stop his soldiers from raping the women in the city. Henry’s choice of words in this speech show us that not only can Henry influence people into fighting but he can create the illusion that disturbing things will happen if you don’t do what I say. This actually isn’t the best type of leadership because he his leading with fear. It is an effective form of leadership but it is one that doesn’t always work
By saying this, Tom Leyton challenges Joseph to look beyond what is obvious when judging The Running Man. The theme of the running man, that things are not always what they seem, is a consistent through Michael Bauer’s text. Many of the characters are misjudged such as ‘the running man’ who is labeled as “the stuff from nightmares”, Tom Leyton a “dangerous sick man” and even Mrs. Mossop, Joseph’s “nosey” neighbour. The books also challenges us as readers to reconsider the intentions behind the actions of the characters in the book, as we find out more about their past. Simon Jamison or The Running man, as Joseph labels him, is seen as a mad man, someone to be “avoided” and who is eyed “with suspicion” and “distaste”.
The Movie makes Leper seem way more wild and dangerous than he seemed in the book. In the book Gene has a hidden hatred for Finny. He doesn’t know why he hates Finny but in his head he can’t stand him. In the movie Gene is more open about his dislike. For example, It looks like he maliciously wiggles Finny out of the tree, whereas, Gene seems to subconsciously does it in the book.
In Macbeth, Macbeth himself is shown as being disturbed due to the way that he is acting and that he starts hallucinating just before he murders the king “Is this a dagger which I see before me” and this shows that he is disturbed because he believes that he can see the dagger even though it is not there which means that he is worried about doing the deed of killing the king and it puts doubt in his mind but his over-whelming ambition forces him to still kill him. Lady Macbeth is disturbed due to the way that she acts, believing that there’s Duncan’s blood on her hand and trying to wash it off constantly, she is also disturbed in a similar way to the woman in The Laboratory because during this time period that they are set in the common stereotype for a woman is to be obeying, shy and to do what they’re told but in the case of Lady Macbeth and the woman in The Laboratory are both manipulative and controlling, in the case of The Laboratory the woman is disturbed because she wants to murder a woman for taking away her last love by poisoning her and she paranoid that they know her plans “He is with her, and they know that I know “ which is another feature of her being deranged due to her being paranoid, in a similar way Lady Macbeth exclaims “and take my milk for gall” which is similar to The Laboratory because they are both trying to create poison in order to gain what they want, Lady Macbeth wants her husband to become king by Duncan and the woman in The Laboratory wants to kill her loves lover (Pauline). The Duke from My Last Duchess is disturbed much alike to the woman in The Laboratory due to them both being paranoid, in the case of the Duke he was paranoid that his wife was flirting with everyone and believe that she valued his “gift of a nine-hundred-years-old name ” the same value as any other gift she was given such as cherries from a peasant whereas in The
For example, at the drive-in, Johnny managed to raise his voice to Dally—which had been Johnny’s most helpful “stand over” man as well as idol—telling him to stop harassing the two girls, Cherry and Marcia. Due to the new boldness of Johnny, Dally had been shocked and therefore stepped away as told. Fortunately, Johnny’s intervention on the girls’ behalf pleases the girls, and they talked and walked with the greasers. On the other hand, this interaction between the female Socs and male greasers sparked the anger of the Soc boys and motivated them to attack Johnny and Ponyboy. When he and Pony were later jumped by the Socs in the park, Johnny had the nerve to use his switchblade to attempt to scare off the Socs.
Curley has obviously decided it is not worth fighting him but before he leaves he instructs Lennie as he still wants to intimidate him and show him that he has an authoritive figure. In this extract Curley has clearly unnerved Lennie as Lennie constantly seems to be in some discomfort for example “Lennie squirmed under the look and shifted his feet nervously”. John Steinbeck does well to produce powerful imagery by simply using the word “squirmed”. This shows that Lennie is embarrassed and does not know what to do and this causes tension as Curley senses his advantage while George is worried about a possible confrontation. Another example is “Lennie twisted with embarrassment”.
He's alla time picking scraps with big guys. Kind of like he's mad at 'em because he ain't a big guy." Another example of Curley's controlling ways is how he's constantly concerned about his wife and her whereabouts, but takes this worry too far just like any other situation he's in. Curley is clearly humiliated by the constant absence of his wife and feels the need to brag
The savage boy’s emotions really control them and their emotions lead to many different feelings or actions, usually bad, but in Ralph’s case his emotions turn to anger when he is frustrated with the savages. In this quote Ralph is running through the woods trying to avoid being caught and killed by Jacks tribe. He then stops and sees the sows head and out of rage from his war-like predicament he smacks it onto the ground. “The skull regarded Ralph like one who knows all the answers and won’t tell. A sick fear and rage swept him.
However, he became a target of sorts because people began to bully him. He was having rocks and other objects thrown at him. It was not that he spoke to upset, assault, or intimidate anyone. It was due to his revolting appearance that frightened people this not know on the peoples behalf lead them to do what came naturally which is to feel threatened and fight. It is horrible to not be able to understand something and then you turn to murder and think that is the answer.
He slammed down the lid of his cash-box. ‘I shall stop the distribution unless I have good behaviour’ (Huxley, 144)” This quote shows that the Society is extremely impatient to get their soma and they are becoming violent in order to obtain their stable
