During his first season with the university he was named Atlantic Coast Conference rookie of the Year for 1982. Being a freshman there, Michael got his ever-growing popularity when he scored the game-winning basket in the 1982 NCAA championship game against the Georgetown Hoyas. Because of this, for Michael’s sophomore and junior years of college, The Sporting News named him college player of the year for both years (4&5). During the summer of 1984, Jordan made his first appearance at the Olympic Games as a member of the U.S. Olympic basketball team. The team won the gold at the games that year, which were held in Los Angeles.
It wasn’t until he moved to the United States that he was introduced to basketball. Charles was born to a poor family in Leeds, Alabama. He and his two brothers were raised by his mother and grandmother. He grew up playing basketball with his brothers. Patrick had great success in his senior year of high school because he was already almost 7 feet tall.
Shawn Thomas was born on January 14, 1971. He lived in Walla Walla, Washington until the age of six, then migrated to Kansas. Thomas attended high school at Jayhawk-Linn. A friend got him hooked on running his senior year. They did workouts together, he said, “I thought I would be pretty good at it, so I gave it a shot.” After senior year he attended college at Emporia State University.
Now we can add Michael Jordan name to the list of players I just named. Jordan is being inducted into the Hall of Fame today due to his great basketball skills on the court and all of the things he accomplished in fifteen seasons in the NBA. As a child Jordan basketball career had some ups and downs. According to ESPN, “during his sophomore year at Laney, a 5’9 Michael Jordan tried out for the basketball team. He was passed over for the final spot on the varsity team.” He took that as motivation and dominated on the junior varsity team.
Every one from my camp has the same stripe. We are united, we are one family, and that helped us know who was from our camp and intimidated others. When those gifts were given to us we were very amazed and shocked at the same time. When we tried them on couch said: “We are running one mile on the sand!”- so it was a team bonding experience. The person who gave those cool gifts to us is a very famous person on that beach.
Angus Morrissey – Past Experiences/Player Resume Profile: Age: 12 Team: Northern Tigers Position: Winger Foot: Right Foot Strengths: 1 v 1, finishing, speed, strength and first touch Club Football: I started off at West Pymble in Under 6’s and played right through to Under 12s. West Pymble Football Club provided me with very good coaching which was essential in my development as a footballer. It wasn’t until Under 12s until I really knew my potential as a footballer. My coach that year was a guy called Greg Fuchs. Greg was a former Australian Schoolboy player who played in the same team as the likes of Liverpool star Harry Kewell and Luke Wilkshire who both played for Australia.
A seventeen year old, just made the winning goals for his basketball team. As his team members picked him up and carried him around on their shoulders, there was disbelief from the crowd but triumph smeared across the seventeen-year-old boy’s face. Jason McElwain has had autism since he was a young boy, possessing all of the signs including speech impairment by not being able to talk till he was five years old. Jason was the manager on his High School basketball team, consisting of filling up water for his teammates and sitting on the bench watching this favorite sport pass by him. His coach Jim Johnson told him to play near the end of a game giving him an opportunity he hasn’t been able to uphold.
Not only did these boys survive but they came up in the world and now serve as an example to young people everywhere. Role models played a very important factor in the lives of these individuals. Ms. Johnson, a third grade teacher, pushed George to strive for more in his life. Ms. Johnson’s biggest contribution, was her ability and desire to expose children to college and higher learning, making what seemed impossible to most of them a not-so-distant goal. The exposure from a young age can have great impact on children’s lives and it certainly worked for the three men today.
Joshua was a natural born genius. All his life schools have pushed him ahead in classes, instead of letting him stay with students his own age. This caused him to not have as many friends as he should have. While I was down in Alabama he became one of my closest friends. He really is fun, energetic, and has a great sense of humor.
Alex Stone Starting Where I Am Standing tall at 6”2, I am a 24 year old gentleman from New Jersey that loves Sports. When I say I love sports I more specifically mean that I am in love with Athletics. Growing up I had the rewarding opportunity of being taught the basics of life and how to be a man through playing sports and learning from my coaches about life and how to deal with different situations. Many of my friends who grew up without their fathers saw our coaches as father figures who were there for whatever you needed, not just to make you run a play on offense or coach first base. This allowed me to fall in love with everything that has to do with team sports as well as individual performance tests in sports.
