Returning to school has been a dream of mines since I graduated from high school. The different job opportunity and having a better income to support me and my family would make me so happy. Quitting my job of 14 years motivated me to return to school to earn a degree. I want to have a stable and good paying job so that I can save for my son’s college as well. Jobs are hard to find these days, especially when they are seeking a High School diploma or a College degree of some sort.
I decided to go back to school and get a college education, I knew my work schedule would not permit me to go into an actual classroom so i opted for the next best, online college. Why is college education is important?The U.S. has been transformed from a manufacturing based economy on knowledge,and the importance of a college education today can be compared to that of a high school education forty years ago. One important answer to this question is more opportunity to get that promotion and move ahead to a better brighter future. During our high school careers many students ask themselves the same question. The answer is that, more than ever a college education is necessary.
Repeating two years of high school would be hard for me to take in. Thoughts ran haywire through my head. I was already seventeen years old. How old will I be when I graduate? Motivated to earn a degree, I did not let that stop me from achieving my dreams.
What degree should I get? After asking myself these questions, I felt like there was no chance I could get into college and earn a degree that would better my future. Some people may find returning to school a very easy decision but, it takes motivation, determination, and confidence. I always thought when I finished high school I would take a year off and then start college. Most things do not happen the way we expected and, I did not start college a year after high school.
Why College Education is Important to Me For most individuals, a college education is merely the next step in the road to a successful career. For myself, the importance of a college education is more of a personal goal. Eight years ago, one of the last conversations I had with my mother prior to her passing away was her wish for me to attain my Bachelors Degree; a goal I had made for myself back when I was just entering High School but never attained as planned. I was one of those numbers who contributed to the statistics of having to drop out of college early on due to pregnancy. As a single parent, I had to put my educational goals on the back burner to raising my family.
As someone looking at a job in a field that is ever changing with the economy, knowing that a college degree that I earn 4 short years after graduation from high school, it is very enticing. My Reflection of Speech 100: Foundations of Oral Communications University of Maryland University College SPCH100/ Spring 2015 Semester Professor Ennis Allen Submitted: May 8, 2015 My Reflections: Foundations of Oral Communications It seems like yesterday that day 1 of Speech 100 class started. My how time goes by to so fast. I choose to take this course for several of reasons. The first being, it was required for my core course requirements for my major in Public Safety Administration. Although I could have taken other courses that fell under speech, I chose this one because I thought it to be more beneficial in my personal and career development, which comes to my second reason.
I want to make something of my life. I started talking to my friends and family about wanting to make sure my future was secure and what my best options were. There was only ever one option that would help me get a job or help me start my own business. It was one that I knew was going to take a lot of hard work, but I knew it would affect the rest of my life, in a very good way. College.
This is when I realized how important a college education really was. Just a few generations ago, a High school diploma was all that was desired from applicants as far as education was concerned. Most folks didn’t even finish high school and quit to work on the family farm or join the military. The United States has been transformed from a manufacturing country, to a county whose economy is based on technology and knowledge. Education and higher learning are necessary to create and maintain technology.
I see my friends getting good jobs and pursuing their education and I was a sixteen year old mother with nothing to look forward to. My life have change so much and my goal was to go back to school and complete my education. For the past three years my mother and brothers always encouraged me to continue where I left off. Finally one day I decided to reapply to a secondary school to complete in education. I try looking for a job first to take care of my daughter and pay for my finances but that wasn’t successful.
