How an associates of art degree contributes to my career goals COMM 299 As each person have his or her own individual reasons for returning to school, earning an associates of arts Degree will contribute to my career goals primarily by giving me a boost of self-confidence, and providing a springboard towards both my bachelor’s of science degree and landing a rewarding job in the information technology field. Improving my marketability in the job market, and allowing my degree to backup the years of hands-on training the military has given me during the past 20 years will further my post military career goals. Growing up, progressing through elementary, junior high and high schools, my parents always pushed my siblings and me to do well in school. Study hard, earn good grades just as many parent continue to do today. For my siblings and me though, college was never something that my parent stressed or pushed. We were never discouraged from attending college; it just was not stressed while growing up. Even though I earned above average grades in high school, I never seriously considered continuing my education after high school. Living in a small town and not knowing what I wanted to do in life just helped in my decision to join the military. At first, I thought that after a short four-year tour I would suddenly know what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I would then attend college and continue with my life. Well, four years quickly became eight years, which became 16. Before I knew it, 20 years have all but passed and it is now time to move on to another career. With no formal college, and my desire to enter into a highly technical job field will require a formal education and confidence that I can do the job.
