He is right; spending billions on animals when our society is yet to be perfect, or even near it, is absurd. The money can be spent on something different, on something that has a cause. Animal senses are more aware than ours are; sick animals should not have to endure the extra pain. According to Bilger, “Americans now spend $19 billion a year on veterinary care fro their pets.” A specific care given is root canals. That is crazy; with
Also many of the things that are tested are cosmetics; this just shows how vain and selfish we humans are. Now let's move on to some of the awful things coming from animal testing. I feel that animal testing is definitely giving us information but it is not worth it for all the pain the animals are experiencing. Did you know some of the animals are not even properly sedated? In fact, almost ten per cent aren't and 9 % of the ones who are die.
(Source 1/3) The 16 billion barrels of oil that lie untapped there would be more than enough to replace the oil Americans would purchase from Iraq for over 58 years. (Source 6/2)With our growing dependency on foreign oil increasing more and more every day, we can not afford to wait any
The quality of the experiments was necessitous. In this study, Roberts (2007) states that, The anatomic, metabolic, and cellular differences between animals and people make animals poor models for human beings. Drugs that pass in animal test are not successful in human clinical tests. Animals as their matter are not germane to human health. Several can cause human diseases that can damage us instead of helping us.
Animals have been used a lot over the last decade. Many successful medical cures for fatal diseases including with advances in understanding and treating serious flus have relied greatly on animals testing. However, many people throughout the world still do not accept animal testing due to its cruelness and inhumanness. Because development in medical treatments, cosmetics, and health care products is essential, I believe that the use of animals for research is necessary. It is true that now a days science and technology has developed and has gone a lot further that we could set up many substitutes for animal testing, but still it is not 100% replaceable with the actual animal.
Animals welfare, not animal right Animals are used in many different scientific tests. It has remained to be a controversy in the past century. “Cruel” and “inhumane” are the two most common words to be used in describing animal testing. Animal activists question the necessity of it, claiming it to be an abuse to animal. They believe that animals should be granted the right against suffering at the hands of humans.
The use of a steroid will build larger muscles, and reduce muscle damage that can occur during intense workouts. Many other countries have developed these steroids specifically for athletes and have no approved medical use. The reason anabolic have no approved medical use is because they have not been tested or approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). When the FDA has not approved a drug, it can be a serious health threat to people who use them (6). Studies have not been performed to prove the true effects because the dosages of the steroids are so high that in becomes an ethical problem.
The treaties and restrictions governing biological warfare’s usage and development are flawed in that they are difficult if not impossible to verify, and thus are unable to prevent its development and usage because of how simple it is to create potent biological weapons and how unpredictable and deadly they can become in the hands of potential terrorist groups and in today’s fragile and vulnerable society. Several treaties in the 20th century have attempted to prevent biological weapon development programs. Conventions like the Biological Warfare Convention (BWC) in 1975 and the Geneva Conventions of the 1900s have been unable to be executed, verified, and followed by many of their signers. These treaties have thus been unable to keep a hold on the problems that biological weapons can pose. These treaties also
The type of pesticide that can affect our environment and health are the chemical pesticides. Even though it has been proven dangerous by scientists the government still allows the use of harmful chemicals on many of the foods we eat. The full health risks associated with pesticides are unknown and most pesticides have never been thoroughly studied for their possible long-term health effects on humans. Everyday humans, plants and animals are exposed to a number of different pesticides, which are harmful to their health. Constant exposure can seriously endanger their physical and mental health.
While the arguments against animal testing are numerous, it still has a tremendous amount of benefit towards humans as a species. One cannot just look at the life expectancy as a measure of how well people live, but instead, we must also look at the quality of life. Should animal testing be eliminated, or, as the article suggests, put under the same ethical code towards the treatment of humans, we will experience a sharp decline in lifespan, and a decrease in the quality of life. The loss of animal testing would result in a sharp decline of lifespan in humans. The one thing most people understand about viruses and bacteria is that they evolve at an extremely rapid pace, leading to what can be called an evolutionary “arms race” between humanity and the diseases we contract.
