Abstract This paper explores different types of anxiety disorders, specifically generalized anxiety disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder. The paper discusses the information that was already known and the source of that knowledge. The paper also identifies information that has been gained through reading chapter five and the reasons it was found to be relevant. I selected the chapter on anxiety disorders, because out of all the chapters thus far, I have found this one to be most interesting. I have always been intrigued by anxiety disorders and the onset of them throughout a person’s life span. Some of the signs and symptoms of this disorder, include but are not exclusive to, a feeling of concern that they are unable to shake, sweating, headaches, fatigues, hot flashes, restlessness, and sleep disturbance. Generalized anxiety disorder can be understood and explained through several different models and perspectives. I have watched a program on television that is all about this disorder and I have seen the noticeable differences in the extent of the symptoms from person to person. I am also always interested in the onset, the age and trigger of the disorder. One point I found interesting is that the disorder “is equally common in men and women and among people of different races and ethnic groups” (Comer, 2007, p. 141).
