(Ayers 87.8) Wealthy Kids Don’t Enlist The reason wealthy kids do not enlist is that they can afford to go to college and not have to worry about the military paying for it. “Researchers found that in March of 2005, military recruitment was short one-third of the quota” (Ayers 87.8). If wealthy teens and any other teens would join some branch of the military, it would make it so much easier for the recruiters to do their job. However, because only “25% of parents will recommend the military to their teens”, they do not enlist (Ayers 87.8). More Military Personnel Deserting The military has changed a lot over the years,
Although Vedder’s argument is somewhat convincing because he points out the economic problems of a college education, he neglects educational benefits that students could get from a college education. First of all, Vedder argues that students with poor high school grades will most likely drop out and/or not get a good job even with college degrees. However, he doesn’t consider that there are some students who become motivated and attain high academic accomplishments due to positive effects of learning assistance programs in college. It might be true that students with poor grades would continue having bad studying skills and challenging time management problems, but there are many learning assistance programs that are available for students who want to improve their studying skills, such as tutoring services and learning strategy workshops. For example, Seattle University, from which I graduated, had great learning assistance programs.
Mario Escobedo English 35 September 5, 2012 Success is achieving what you have set out to do, an accomplishment. Lately students have lacked success in education. I believe with the right motivation, being around positive people, and being organized can really determine a student from being successful or dropping out. Although there are many strategies, without incorporating these three methods, students will most likely not achieve success in education. First of all every student needs a motivation to get a higher education after high school, but the question is how are students going to stay motivated throughout the semester?
Affirmative Action in College Admissions College admission can influence teenagers in high school to do extremely well in terms of grades, so that they may be admitted into the selective university of their choice. But what if I were to state that the young person who achieved outstanding grades and did very well on standardized tests was not admitted into the university of his or her choice. However another person that had worse credentials did get into that same university, simply because they are a minority. This is a great example of affirmative action, which is an active effort to improve the employment or educational opportunities of members of minority groups (Merriam-Webster). Some believe that minorities deserve an advantage considering their under representation, under privileged backgrounds, and other disadvantages.

Some teens have personal reasons that are sometimes urgent, and staying in school isn't an option. Although there are many understanding reasons not to raise the age, many economists have found that over the last 20 years, higher drop out ages do matter. It didn't only improve graduation rates, but entrance to colleges and career outcomes. If the students have to stay in school longer, they have more options such

Those kinds of ideas can lead them to serious consequences. Those consequences can include: getting caught, losing tuition, and getting kicked out of college. Getting caught may not be an issue, if they are in high school, but in college it can be an issue. Explaining themselves to the professor and classmates can be quite embarrassing. Their classmates may not find it okay for them to get good grades while they do nothing, while the classmates study hard and long to get the grades that they do.
People who go to college now pay to go there and if they fail a class they just wasted a lot of money. If the government paid for everyone’s education then no one would think they would have to work hard and they would think they would have to work hard and they would end up failing once they moved in to there career. The only people that deserve to go to college for free are people that earn a scholarship or those who apply for financial aide. These programs are there for the people that have the desire to go to college. Most people that think a higher education should be free are not very wealth but there are programs like financial aide to help them if they have the desire to get a higher education.
