Robin Flores Professor Anderson English 103 25 October 2012 One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest One is to say, woman are portrayed inferior to men because they were never given a position of power, men see themselves superior than women, and are consider as sexual objects. The movie, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” shows the audience that women should stay in a patriarchy system. The female character Miss Ratchet, abused her power as a leader by being over dramatic on her job. The main character, McMurphy never agreed with Miss Ratchet on anything because he feels superior. Two other females that had nicknames are known as a sexual need in the film because McMurphy invited them over to seduce the guard and Billy.
She only references woman in her advice on how to overcome the issue, therefore leaving out a major demographic in the workforce. Due to the fact that the male population is completely disregarded from her arguments, it shows a major prejudice in her writing for this

Women have long been considered to be part of the lower status when it comes to jobs similar to men. In Arlie Hochschild’s vies, “The feelings of the lower-status partly may be discounted in two ways: by considering them rational but unimportant or by considering them irrational and hence dismissible” (172). This “doctrine of feelings” has been seen to permeate the workforce in such a way that it becomes impossible for women to be respected when they display any sort of emotion. In this essence, women who are considered the lower class in the working environment are oppressed in two ways. The first such way is to ignore any legitimate concerns women have; the second way is to classify any emotion as unnecessary and “irrational.” Women get taken advantage of solely because society has considered them emotional, which in today’s modern society is often mistaken for being unstable.
If women were to step out of their own determined “role” they’re then automatically considered as outcasts by society. For example, if a woman doesn’t uphold the correct expected feminine figure or appearance and they happen to have more of a masculine feature, people inevitably assume that they’re a “lesbian” or “transgendered”. In conclusion society just isn’t embracing individuality or differences, which is what everyone needs. Society itself needs to get over what they think is right and to let others act the way they
Compare and Contrast the Roles of Gender in The Yellow Wallpaper and The Bluest Eye The gender roles in The Yellow Wallpaper and The Bluest Eye both have an expected norms which are two be followed, albeit ones that are dependent upon the time and social placement of those involved, they also portray a deviation from these norms. In The Yellow Wallpaper it is shown that there norms and values which must be kept to for a women to be accepted in society. To gain this social acceptance they need to be compliant to their husband’s biddings and be meek and untoward in the public eye. The repetitive use of the expression “Personally, I” by Jane is a direct contrast to the female stereotype; it expresses a confidence in her own opinions and intelligence when she must rely upon her husbands. It portrays Jane’s resentment of the fact that her opinion is of no or little importance in true society.
They also believe that women lack many of the traits that men possess, along with gratitude and intelligence. Another reason women are treated unfairly in Islam is the fact that they are greatly separated from men in the Muslim society. It is believed that women have 10 awrah (external body parts of a woman that cannot be shown). This is due to the fact that a woman’s body is known to belong to her husband and no one else should have access to it. Some groups such as the Malikiyah and Hanafiyah do allow the woman’s face to be shown, but only if the face is not naturally beautiful and no makeup is worn.
Many found this to be stifling. 24. In the case of Willie, he was offended at having to take professional orders from a woman, even in the workplace. This felt like an attack on his dignity and defied his cultural idea of masculinity. 25.
Many of the things that the older couple exhibited was frowned upon by the younger couple. The younger women especially felt as if the older women was belittling herself by doing everything at the man’s beckoned call. This is an example of how generations can look down upon each other based upon the way they live. Many factors come into play in gender roles. The one thing that must be recognized is that the roles are not one that happen over night.
The notion that only women can comfort children and men can’t is extremely stereotypical and sexist and should not be put in a student’s mind. The book also implies that all jobs are gender specific. “For one thing, Miss Maudie can’t serve on a jury because she’s a woman” (Page 221). This quote is saying that simply because Miss Maudie is female, she is not fit to be a member of the jury, and that only men can be
