Luke Schnars Cultural diversity In meikas Loes “Working At Bazooms she discusses the interactions of power, gender, and sexuality. Meika aquires a job at a Bazooms which is a major restraint chain that focuses on all of these key concepts. Bazooms is prided on their model waitresses and they are also the main attraction. In all of these restaurants the waiters are predometly female who have a certain image of the model waitress. The managers and cooks are predomitely male who have no certain look required to become an employee. When hired a Bazooms girls are required to sign a official harassment policy in order to protect the resturauant from any law suits that may be filed against them. Bazooms keeps this model restaurant in order by establishing formal power, informal power, behavior rules, appearance rules, and emotional labor. The waitresses are referred to as “girls” which is a name not fit for an adult. Girl is used to sustain dominance and not give respect to these waitresses because they are considered of a lower status which is based off the Bazooms girl concept. These waitresses are not seen as individuals, they are more looked at as a sex symbol or Bazoom girl which is their job. This is not a healthy workplace for women. They are shown no respect or sensitivity to their feelings as individuals. The Bazoom girls also have behavior rules set upon them. The rules are based on what men want to see. Being a Bazoom girl requires you to look perfect, wholesome looking, smiling, appearing to be having a good time etc…. These behavior rules are placed by men and being of female gender the waitresses are required to follow these rules. These rules again abandon the waitress’s individuality as people.
