Hospitals are using more unlicensed assistive personnel to assist in patient care. This brings up an important part of delegation which consists of understanding all staff member’s job titles, roles, and ability to carry out tasks. The safety of patients is very important in providing the care they need and deserve. The registered nurse is considered to be a team leader in the process of delegation. The ultimate goal of nursing delegation is to provide the most efficient, effective, quality care in the time frame the nurse is given.
Running head: TYMITHA’S NURSING PHILOSOPHY Tymitha’s Nursing Philosophy Submitted by Tymitha Barnes, RN In partial fulfillment of the requirements of Transition to Professional Nursing N3645 Jeanean Boyd, MSN, RN July 13, 2014 Tymitha’s Nursing Philosophy The daily role of a nurse is a very complex one. As a registered nurse, I impact many lives. Therefore, my nursing philosophy is critical as I interact with my patients, their family members, and other medical professionals in providing quality healthcare at all times. My personal nursing philosophy has been greatly influenced by the environment in which I was raised. Excellent morals and beliefs were instilled in me at an early age by my grandparents and mother.
The purpose of my mission statement is to express my caring nature, selflessness, and motivation, by taking good care of my patients. By continuing my education, I hope to gain the confidence needed to showcase my professional strengths, ability to handle stressful situations, use critical thinking skills, and to never lose sight of the reasons I became a nurse to begin with, to touch the lives of my patients on a daily basis. A. Functional Differences There are two main agencies that regulate and support the nursing industry. There are regulatory agencies, such as an each state’s Board of Nursing, and there are also professional organizations, such as the American Nurses Association. Both of these agencies play different roles in how the nursing profession is governed.
They form an important part of the broad spectrum of skills required in the nursing profession. From this discourse community project, I learned that communication is the most important discourse in nursing. It is crucial for a nurse to communicate properly with doctors, and other nurses, in what can be life and death situations. One way that doctors and nurses communicate with each other is by documenting patient information. A nurse must always remember to read and document that information every time a patient visits.
Each nurse demonstrated that teambuilding is important because it helps to provide better patient care by utilizing the expertise of the other disciplines and allowing collaborative efforts to resolve patient problems. Teambuilding also includes relationship building. As stated by the nurse midwife, she establishes a relationship with the labor nurses, which also enhances patient care. The particular care applied through these particular nursing practices, across the board, are direct patient-centered care with the exception of the infection control nurse. Her care is not directly with the patient, but her job effects the patient directly.
It is understood how interdisciplinary collaborations are very meaningful in providing care in this healthcare system. Nurses are involved in the participation of caring, safety, and the daily socio-economic realities of the patients we care for and their families. They make sure that the responsibility of our patients care, and safety relies completely on us. As nurses, it’s our job, to ensure them that the care given is within our scope of practice and that the quality of care is presented as well. This report of the IOM has made the author realize the importance of education, leadership roles, and the qualities of a leader.
These elements identify specific practices nurses can use to deliver safe and quality patient-centered care ("What are nursing,"). These same principles have been ingrained in nurses throughout their journey in healthcare. To consistently improve safety and quality of care provided, health care facilities track trends in regards to nursing-sensitive indicators. By identifying areas of deficiency, an action plan or quality improvement project can be developed to correct and or revise current protocols as well as monitor the effectiveness of said changes over
The PPACA places a substantion value on nursing because nurses are often the healthcare professionals that have the most contact with patients. nurses will be instrumental in providing “patient evaluation and education, assuring continuity and coordination of care across settings and providers, and communicating effectively within the health care team and the patient and patient’s family and representatives” (ANA, 2010,
Once completing my bachelors of science in nursing, I can continue my long-term goal of becoming a nurse practitioner. The skills required of a nurse practitioner are skills that I have been practicing throughout my career as a nurse. I will listen to my patient’s needs and concerns, and provide them with information in a way they can understand it. I will have better critical thinking and reasoning skills for when problems or situations arise. I will have the knowledge and information needed to diagnose and treat.
(Potter & Perry, 2011, p. 2) As a professional nurse, you need to stay informed and be aware of the most current evidence or research. (Potter & Perry, 2011, p. 2) Research helps to inform our practice and helps us to improve patient outcomes. Just as it is important for nurses to be aware of current research, it is also critical that nurses have effective and adaptable communication skills. A nurses responsibility is to effectively communicate with patients and their familles, as well as the team. Effective communication allows nurses to develop important therapeutic skills.
