Seventeen million Americans have fallen victim to Type 2 Diabetes. Others are plagued with Myelodysplastic Syndrome which is a deficiency in bone marrow. A more shocking find is Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (Benzene 411 1,5). Soft Drinks are the main cause to numerous medical issues found within the digestive systems of many people who consume these toxic beverages. The effects of soft drinks can be seen within a matter of weeks as you glance at your smile in the mirror, a matter of months as your waist line continues to increase, or the consequences can be dealt with later in your life as the your bone marrow density has decreased due to the consumption of soft drinks. There are other uses for soft drinks as well. You can poor the beverage over your windshield to prevent it from freezing. How could this be possible? Soft drinks contain a chemical that can be found in petroleum, natural gasses, and antifreeze. The substance is called Glycol (Callender 2). Another harmful chemical found in soft drinks is Benzene. This substance has been directly linked to a number of health scares including Myelodysplastic Syndrome and Myelogenous Leukemia (Benzene 411). Another recent study has linked Lymphoma, another form of deadly cancer, to Benzene (Callender 2). Even though many would argue that diet drinks are healthier, the truth is that diet drinks are very harmful to one’s health. Diet drinks have been created in order to offer a drink with fewer sugars. The sugars have been replaced with an artificial sweetener called Aspartame. Aspartame is compiled of aspartic acid, Methanol, and Phenylalanine (Gold 2-5). Each of these acids alone is a dangerous force so one can only imagine what can be accomplished when they combine.
