Page 1 Sex is an important topic that everyone knows about but they really do not talk about sex. Sex is used as a form of pleasure and as a way of reproduction. All species on Earth must engage in sex in order to continue with the reproduction of every species. If people were to stop having sex, the human species would die out. In the past, there were no sexually transmitted diseases. As time progressed, more and more sexually transmitted diseases came into existence. The first sexually transmitted diseases were curable. Then in the past 4o or so years, sexual diseases came into existence that were not curable. Youth engage in the practice of having non-protective copulation. Copulation is defined as having sexual intercourse between males and females. According to Karen Peterson’s “Clueless”, “Kaiser’s findings are in line with those from a major government-funded report. The 2001 Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) found about 33% of ninth- through 12th-graders are sexually active, defined as having intercourse; about 46% have had sex at some time”. The quote later goes on to say that the study did not include oral sex. My research into this topic showed that the vast majority of these studies did not include oral sex. Net a lot of teenagers feel as though oral sex is not important. The risk of obtaining a disease from oral sex is great. This particular study shows that a lot of teens have engaged in oral sex. “About 36% of those 15 to 17 have had oral sex. The number closely parallels the 37% who have had sexual intercourse. Only 13% of those who have not had intercourse have engaged in oral sex. But overall, 46% say oral sex is ‘not as big of a deal as intercourse’ “(Peterson).
