Sarah Stiles is an upcoming sophomore in high school that takes birth control for medical reasons. In order to conduct the interview I had to give her information regarding the birth control movement so she could answer the questions. There was a total of seven questions asked with the first one being: Can you describe a significant historical event that you feel influenced contemporary culture? Her reply was “ Yes, the birth control movement in the late 1800's to the present day (Personal Communication, May, 2013). During the time period of the late 1800's, women were not allowed to enjoy intercourse and men did not care about the feelings of women (Personal Communication, May, 2013).The birth control movement gave women an opportunity to become independent of their choices and put them in control of when they have children (Personal Communication, May, 2013).
“ Seventeen year old women should be able to buy the morning after pill without a prescription within a few weeks, a government spokesman said Thursday.” (“FDA”,1). They wouldn’t sell you the pill without a subscription, so imagine if they wouldn’t get a held of the doctor, then it would be to late. Even if you had unprotected sex and you didn’t want to be pregnant you should be able to get a held of that pill. You never know what kind of accidents might happened if you don’t have protected sex. Its just good to know that there is a pill to save you three days after you had sex, and didn’t use a condom.
Saying this though, I would never ask someone who I have impregnated to get an abortion. But I can see with some people it would be the only way out. If the mother was raped or could not support the baby with any kind of a decent life then the more humane thing to do would be to get an abortion. There is the argument of if it would be better to carry out the birth and give the baby up to orphanages and adoption but the toll that would take on the mother to give up her baby after actually seeing it would be immense. We cannot judge about people who have either undergone abortions or thinking about because we do not know what kind of life they actually have and what they could be going through.
On the other hand, males used condom to prevent the sperm of entering into the fallopian tubes of a woman . Sex-education courses in middle school and high school could be another alternative factor to prevent unwanted pregnancy within the majority group of young teens. The sex-education program course are taught with widely objective information and formal activities to inform students of the terrible consequences of unprotected sex. Throughout history, women have had abortions, whether legal or not even if it meant risking their lives with unsafe methods. Camille Peri states, “ You look at the ultrasounds and there’s a fetus with a heartbeat and then after the procedure, there’s the fetus, usually in pieces, in a dish” (Peri 2).
Methods of Contraception Genna Lee psy/265 4/2/2014 Methods of Contraception In the case of Tina and Dan I would most likely talk to them about continuing the abstinence. I say this because if they are seriously not going to have sex until after they are married and want to become pregnant quickly afterwards then this would be the wisest choice. If they could not follow through with the abstinence I would recommend condoms due to the fact that it would be a quick way to prevent pregnancy without messing with the female cycle or hormones because any other form of contraceptives can take two to four months to work its way out of the females body and regulate her back to being able to became pregnant. If the timeline is not a worry
H1N1 Vaccination Mandatory? H1N1 broke out this past year to leave everyone in a fright about their health and well being. A vaccination soon came out and a mass of people ran out and got the shot without even knowing what the risks could be. Now the government is thinking about making this vaccination mandatory for everyone. So what happens to the people that didn’t think it was a big deal to get the shot, or just flat out didn’t want it?
It is a common belief that Herpes is only contracted from a partner who has an open sore, but stdexpress.com claims that the virus can be contracted from a sexual partner even when he or she has no symptoms present. Abstinence from not simply sex but any physical contact is the only known way to completely avoid the transmission of HSV from someone who is infected. Latex condoms have been proven to reduce the risk of transmission as well as taking the drug Valtrex daily. According to stdexpress.com, the human body can take from two weeks to six months before HSV antibodies are developed enough to be detected. This results in some people having false negative results when being tested for the
Recently uncovered were VAER reports of HPV infection, genital warts and cervical lesions after Gardasil vaccination. However, CDC has failed to update it’s website with this pertinent information. The FDA has questioned weather HPV types not carried in the vaccine can offset the effectiveness of the vaccine. The vaccine only contains HPV types 16 and 18 even though there are approximately 15 types of HPV associated with cervical cancer. One case of HPV infection in a twenty-two year old girl who had participated in a Merck Gardasil trial in 2003 according to a VAERS report.
Brianna DiElmo Essay-1 Rowand If one day a so called “miracle pill” was invented to allow a human to function with only one hour of sleep per night but then never be able to dream again, choosing to take it or not would be a huge decision. There are many reasons to why a person would take the pill such as, substantial amounts of extra time to get things done, study, clean, go to school, and just time for yourself. But on the other hand loosing the ability to dream most likely will make people reconsider. Therefore there are many advantages and drawbacks of such pill. In my own opinion I would not take the pill just due to the fact that I would never be able to dream again, which is a huge thing for me.
Mariah Mcfadin American Literature- Period 7 Mr. Loomis Wednesday November 9, 2011 Where Does The Government Cross The Line? With recent progress in medical vaccinations, the United States government is making more and more vaccines a requirement for United States children going into preschool and kindergarten. Whether they are for the flu, measles, or cervical cancer, certain vaccines that have been made mandatory have had negative effects for the children forced to used them and the politics behind these vaccines have effected the parents’ viewpoint towards the wellbeing of their children. A vaccine can have very few side effects and still be quite dangerous to children, especially those who are accidentally given the vaccine while
