To the extent that this business activity pulled in spending from persons in other states, the measure would result in a net increase in taxable economic activity in the state” (Brown 15). Our state can not only receive income from selling marijuana, but also can make revenues from other related business activities. Making money from legalizing marijuana might be a way to assist our state to overcome the finical crisis in recent years. Legalization of marijuana can also save the cost on supervising marijuana criminals. Every year our state has to spend a large sum of money on supervising marijuana because it is illegal.
If marijuana were legal I believe the government could make a good profit off of the drug like they do cigarettes. If marijuana were to become legal I believe they should have an age restriction to the drug like they do with cigarettes and I also believe they should allow a certain amount restriction to the people as well. They have breathalyzers that can tell the amount of alcohol a person has consumed so I believe they could come up with a device to tell the amount of THC a person has in their system. A person is allowed .08 percent alcohol on their breath and still allowed behind the wheel of a vehicle so why can’t they tell how much marijuana a person has taken in by taking a blood sample and seeing how much THC is in a person’s
I on the other hand, do not see it as a big problem. Now I do not say this because I might smoke, I just never have seen the real issue of it being harmful or causing harm. On the contrary, marijuana has much more benefits. For example, there would be less incarceration and conviction rates for marijuana would lower. In addition, you could tax marijuana, which would help build the economy.
I watched my brother weaken day by day and I know now that if he had had the opportunity to take medicinal marijuana to relieve some of the pain and nausea he wouldn’t have had suffer as much. Regulating and legalizing marijuana would really help improve our economic situation and free us from that debt that our nation currently owes. Our government could control our law enforcement spending and focus primarily in programs to educate our youth about the dangers of habit forming drugs, gangs and so forth and use their time wisely to arrest those who are committing felonies and/or dangerous
In the most recent years the use of Marijuana has taken its toll in the world. Many people look down on smoking Marijuana while other advocate that it's no more harmful than alcohol or nicatine. Which comes to the argument of is Marijuana addicting, or is it in the hands of the user. In the Article "Marijuana Is Not Addictive, By Paul Armentano". Armentano compares being addicting to Marijuana is the same as being addicted to caffeine.
Marijuana, Long Overdue Decriminalization The legalization of marijuana is long overdue, it is necessary for the federal government to invest in scientific research and decriminalize it. There is an ongoing contradictory dilemma whether it can be used as medicine and be therapeutic. The controversy of whether marijuana can be used medically has been a political issue more than scientific. Alcohol and tobacco has proven to be more dangerous than marijuana. Because there is evidence supporting that marijuana has benefits for medical purposes and there is no real support that it is fatal, marijuana should be legalized and distributed through a controlled market; thus helping to resolve ongoing issues both medically and politically.
The July 9, 2008 online edition of Salem-News features Tim King's story on a proposed law that would legalize the sale of marijuana purchased in liquor stores. The Oregon Cannabis Tax Act would make marijuana legal and available in a controled retail environment, much like the sale of liquor. Supporters of this proposed law claim that the legalization of marijuana in Oregon would generate millions of tax dollars, whoch could save the state's current unstable economy. They say it would lower the statess tax burden while generating revenue that would be used for drug abuse education and treatment programs. Another good point is that the legalization of marijuana in Oregon could re-establish the use of industrial hemp, which is a productive
If drug uses could grow their own weed, for example, it wouldn’t be a gateway drug therefore no black market. I would suggest selling weed in smoke shops, or liquor stores so the tax profits would increase at the same time. Legalization would get rid of some problems but yes I would also agree it would cause some as well. There would be a spike in the drug use because of the big ‘legalization hype’ but eventually it would go down. The best way I believe to reform this is put the government in change of selling them or assigning places to sell them, like the example I used in the liquor stores.
It no longer makes sense in this time to prohibit the use of this valuable commodity. The uses presented in this research are only a small cross section of the beneficial areas of legalization. Making marijuana legal will continue to reduce trafficking, taxpayer monies would be saved by not having to prosecute marijuana offenders, an economic boost would be achieved by taking advantage of hemp as a cash crop, and an entirely new treatment plan for many diseases could be opened up with legalization. Legalizing marijuana will help the American people as well as reduce trafficking to the United
Decriminalizing marijuana to some could cause an increase in consumption since it is no longer under such harsh prohibition. Since the legalization in Colorado it has had an effect on the amount of trafficking between states since it isn’t widely legalized many people are trying to get there to buy it if they live within reason to the state. After its legalization just as alcohol it would be made much easier for this substance to fall into the wrong hands. Although it isn’t a substance that you could easily overdose on it is still something that needs to be kept away from persons not of age which with it being easier to access could raise some extra issues. The effects could really benefit greatly on the other hand as well though if the tax money can be directed towards the school teacher salaries would rise along with the overall production of school.
