The United States is a country that was built on giving liberties and many rights to it's citizens and inhabitants. Many of the Europeans that first came to establish settlements in this country came because they were seeking the religious freedom that they did not have in their home country. The people that live in this country have fought to maintain the freedoms that many of their ancestors and family members came to this country looking for. When people come to this country, more often than not, it is because they know they are guaranteed certain freedoms but sometimes there are freedoms offered in other countries that are restricted here. The author states that he has a fantasy that once adults reach a certain age (80) they should be given marijuana. An observant reader might question why if another drug, like alcohol, has a 21 year old age requirement why put the age minimum for marijuana at 80. If the reason to have the alcohol age minimum is wait until people's body stops developing so that the brain isn't affected too much by the alcohol why does the author want marijuana to be legalized for people of such an advanced age? It seems that the author wants marijuana to be legalized for his own personal reasons and not because it can benefit society. Although the author does mention some statistics that show how much money would be saved if marijuana were to be legalized, the primary reason for the author wanting marijuana to be legalized seems to be for personal benefit and not the benefit of the economy or other people in general.
