Why I Study Science Science is a large part of my everyday life weather I realize it or not. My insight of the universe and how it works will broaden if I have knowledge of all different sciences. Surprisingly, science can be recognized in the simple pleasures in life. One of the things that I love doing is going on winter getaways to ski resorts with my friends. I am a big fan of snowboarding and cuddling up by a warm fire. The reason why I choose to study science is to have a better understanding of the things that I enjoy. Winter has always been my favorite season. I love the crisp air and playing in the snow. I have the most fun in the snow when I am snowboarding. The best feeling to me is the thrill of speeding down the slopes. I can apply science to this pleasure of mine when looking at Newton’s First Law of Motion. This law explains that every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless and external force is applied to it. If I did not apply force upon my snowboard on the top of the flat mountain, then it would continue to have zero motion. I can recognize the first law of motion again as I move down the mountain with my snowboard. If there were no external forces action upon it, then I would continue to move. Since I know how to rotate my feet and legs to move to a position where the most friction is distributed against the board, I am able to break. That force is what changed the motion of my board from moving, to not moving. So when I reach the end of the trail and see the lodge, I know that crashing into a mob of people is not the only force that is able to stop me from moving. I find that after a vigorous day of snowboarding fun, I am very exhausted. My friends and I bond by sharing stories and relaxing in the food court of the lodge. We talk about who had the biggest wipe-out or how handsome the boys we got
