Learning How to Snowboard I. Introduction A. Attention Getter: Picture this, crisp mountain air hitting your face, being able to see your breath as you breathe in and out. Feeling refreshed, regenerated, renewed and revived. Sitting at the top of the world on soft white powder. Admiring the beauty of the magnificent mountain peaks. Anticipation now building inside, adrenaline pumping, preparing for what is soon to come. As your heart rate increases you smile at the excitement soon to come. Rising to your feet, standing on your board, carving into the side of the mountain, a refreshing breeze hits you as you make your way down the mountain. B. General Purpose: Today I’m going to show you the basics of snowboarding. C. Specific Purpose: I am going to demonstrate the proper gear to wear and the basics in falling and balancing as you’re going down the mountain. D. Thesis Statement: After this demonstration you will have the confidence to try snowboarding at least once! E. Establish Credibility: I have been snowboarding for the last six years and have gone to several mountains around the western coast. F. Preview Main Points: There are three things I am going to talk about today, Gear, how to fall correctly and three basic snowboarding maneuvers. Transition Sentence: One of the most important aspects of snowboarding is your gear; after all you want to have fun when you go! II. Body A. Main Point 1: It is important to dress appropriately when going to the snow to have the most enjoyable experience. 1. This means a good pair of waterproof and preferably insulated pants and jacket. 2. Good polarized goggles with an anti-fog coating or a nice UV coated pair of sun glasses for warmer days. 3. Good quality gloves or mittens. 4. A couple pair of wool socks or double layer thick socks that preferably reach past your calf. 5. Optional: A face mask or neck
