Well-Being Essay Well-being in the early years is paramount and highly contributes to form a healthy child. (Veale, 2013). Stratham and Chase (2010) define wellbeing as ’the quality of people’s lives’, which include aspects such as emotional and social well-being, health status and other objective measures. In this essay, I aim to explore three separate case studies which all interlink with children’s well-being. The predominant purpose of this essay is to analyse the effectiveness of integrated working. The three case studies that this piece will examine is the child protection case of Victoria Climbie, the condition of obesity and the effect this may have on a child’s overall well-being, alongside a government campaign called ‘Change4life’ which aims to support children suffering from obesity. The Laming report identified that Victoria could have been saved on 12 separate occasions. However, it was not only that the social workers involved in Victoria’s case were to blame, doctors and police officers were also known to Victoria. Victoria was known to four London boroughs' social services departments Haringey, Ealing, Brent and Enfield, - three housing departments, two hospitals - Central Middlesex and North Middlesex - two Metropolitan police child protection teams, and a specialist centre run by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. Over the years, it is evident that there have been many child protection cases that have occurred (Macleod-Brudenell and Kay, 2008, p.394). One of the most heart-breaking cases of child abuse revolved around the death of Victoria Climbie, who died due to a serious case of neglect and physical abuse in February 2000 (Ferguson, 2005, p.782).
