The second presentation was given by Dr. Rachel Crowther; she talked about what the National Childhood Obesity Database is doing to prevent childhood obesity. She spoke about the different ways to determine if your child is becoming obese. The third presentation was given by Dr. Bridges; he said that doctors need to be realistic with the goals that they set with their outpatients. He said if the goals aren’t realistic then the outpatient might become discouraged and might lose weight at that time but gain it right back in the long run. This article help me in all kinds of ways, I figured out that childhood obesity is a large issue in this day and age.
Article This article has information on estimated percentage deaths associated with Overweight and obesity. Using the research in this article I am going to prove the severity of obesity and the ending results if people do not do something about the obesity epidemic. Obesity can lead to death and to me that is truly scary. Society really needs to realize what being obese can do and I think the facts in this article will help me explain how severe obesity really is. This includes cognitive and emotional development, fostered through access to play in the early years and high quality education in school, and physical development, for example through a nutritious diet. School is a key area of children’s lives where experiences vary greatly and negative experiences have a significant impact on well-being. 1.2 When children show healthy development in spite of adversity, it is called resilience. Fostering resilience in young children requires strengthening the family, the community, as well as children’s own personal resources. If children are resilient they will be able to cope better with problems, they will have better health and they will be happier and more fulfilled.
Google’s definition say’s “Shaking baby syndrome is a triad of medical findings: subdural hematoma, retinal hemorrhage, and cerebral edema from which some doctors, consistent with current medical understanding, infer child abuse caused by intentional shaking. In a majority of cases there is no visible sign of external trauma”. Some of us fail to realize that Shaking Baby Syndrome is a serious matter; this is one of many forms of abuse. It is reported as the leading cause of half of baby’s deaths in the United States. It’s not that I didn’t keep an eye on my child at the time anything can happen, in that instant me turning my head to say something to one of my other children, he grabbed her out of her chair that quickly.
The purpose of epidemiology is to aid in establishing preventative programs and to control the development and spread when trends are identified in populations (Miller-Keane, 2003, para. 4). In the United States, the health issues surrounding childhood poverty have been identified as a nation problem by the public health system and are under epidemiologic study on the national, regional, and local levels. To be able to develop effective programs to combat the obesity epidemic among children living in poverty in the United States, descriptive epidemiology, the first stage of epidemiologic study, is being done. Descriptive epidemiology is examining the occurrence of health-related problems surrounding childhood poverty.
2.3 Explain how theories of development and frameworks to support development influence current practice. Theories of development and frameworks to support development are incredibly important to us when working with children. They help us to understand children, how they react to things, situations, their behaviour and the way they learn. Different theories and ways of working with children have come together to provide frameworks for children’s care, such as Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which is used within all child care settings. This encourages us to work together, help and check the development of babies, children and young people, to keep them healthy and safe.
In recent times this document has become much publicised as it has now been introduced into all services involved with the care of children and, in particular, schools. The paper identifies five important outcomes for children and young people; 1) Be healthy 2) Stay safe 3) Enjoy and achieve 4) Make a positive contribution 5) Achieve economic well-being These aims have been introduced in order to increase the learning potential for children, attempting to offer any necessary support at a young age in order to ensure and provide opportunities for success in later life. For the purpose of this assignment, the one aspect of ECM which will be focused on in more depth, including looking at how this theory is implemented and put into practice, will be the third specific aim, enjoy and achieve. In conjunction with this, a further aspect of the school environment will be considered, especially how this particular factor impacts on the ECM aim. I will discuss specifically how the ECM aim of enjoy and achieve is affected by behaviour management strategies, how these are approached and implemented by full-time teachers at the school and by supply teachers visiting the school within those teachers’ lessons.

CYP 3.6 Working together for the benefit of children and young people By Zuzana Jendrekova 1.1 Explain the importance of multi agency working and integrated working If we work with children, your career is likely to involve close working with other agencies. Multi agency working is an effective way of supporting children and families with additional needs. Multi agency working brings together practitioners from different sectors and professions within the workforce to provide integrated support to children and their families, for example a ‘team around the child’. It is an effective way of supporting children with additional needs and helping to secure real improvements in their life outcomes. As an early years setting we have a responsibility to help the children in our care achieve the 5 outcomes of the UK Governments Every Child Matters (ECM) – Be Healthy, Stay Safe, Enjoy & Achieve, Make a positive contribution and Achieve economic well-being.
