Only 18 percent of the public said "leaders should not pay attention to public opinion polls because this will distract them from deciding what they think is right." When the public was asked whether they think that "elections are the only time when the views of the people should have influence, or that also between elections leaders should consider the views of the people as they make decisions," an extraordinary 94 percent say that government leaders should pay attention to the views of the public between elections. Closely related to the dissatisfaction with the degree of government responsiveness to the public is the widespread perception that decisions are not being made in the public's best interest. When the public was asked, “Would you say that this country is run by a few big interests looking out for themselves, or that it is run for the benefit of all the
This was very unfair on the people and on the other people up for election, so this source doe’s hint at the fact a reform should take place, but this particular MP does not want a reform because he is benefitting without it. Saying this, some boroughs and counties were under-represented whereas some were over-represented. Source 2 on the other hand, is a speech made by a Tory MP, Sir Robert Inglis in Parliament. This man is clearly not interested in a reform and says how the parliament is a ‘complete representation of the interests of the people’. With this quote, we can question this over source 1.
In Brave New World history is no longer necessary unless you are a world controller. History is not taught because it will not benefit the world state and they don’t want anyone to be deconditioned or start to rebel. Even without history the citizens of the world state are happy and some are conditioned to be afraid of books so they would not even dare to read if they are given a
Some issues put forward by the government may be too complicated for the people to understand, which means they may have difficulty deciding on their opinion due to lack of knowledge. Referendums may encourage giving power to the people, however, making important decisions should probably be left for the elected MP’s to conclude, simply for the fact that they are experts. Another advantage of using referendums is that they stop the government from making decisions which aren’t suited, or are unpopular with the public when an issue raised has had a large population vote ‘no’. If the government change a referendum’s verdict, then the public are less likely to conform to it which means the government have no choice in which to carry out their final decision. The second disadvantage of holding more referendums is that
Not voting could be a benefit because of the voter’s lack of knowledge. Voting is not meant for everyone. Not everyone watches the news or C-SPAN. Not everyone watches the presidents give their speeches or go to their campaign rallies. The people that do go should vote because they know what’s going on.
Schooling isn't that important to the Amish because they aren't going to go to college. But, if someone was to try to leave the Amish and come to our society, they are looked down upon and they usually have trouble fitting in. Once you leave the Amish, you are not allowed to come back. The only exception to coming back is if you admit to your wrong doing, then you have to be accepted. It works the same way if Americans were to try to join; they have to give up everything they know and be accepted into the Amish culture.
Barrett also helped Taylor realise that no one can be trusted, and that she should not always believe everything she hears from the Senator Rox and the government Taylor never paid any attention to ads, and usually ignored them (as she explained in Page 207). Barrett helped Taylor realise that advertising in the Chattering World, was all about the government trying to persuade everyone to vote for them. For example, when Senator Rox lied about the “Q-Plague” disease, so he can come up with a cure for it (Cue-Kill) to gain money and respect from the public. Barrett does not only change Taylor, he also changes himself. Through the book Barrett becomes a stronger and more knowledgeable person, learning many different things that he would not have learnt at Simplicity.
Begging the question fallacy is applied in the letter. The author demeans the very idea of the argument of why the Park Commission is considering closing North Park Drive, because the premises that every individual that uses the road already accepts the statement, and not the conclusion the Park Commission is trying to get the audience to accept. 6. In the National Review is an example of circumstantial ad hominem fallacy; very close to a personal attack, the Nation Review is reducing what the protesters say because of the beliefs the group of protesters belongs to. For example, “if the scene depicted a modern, secularized Gentile family or any family not Jewish?” 7.
Our country is as divided as ever and there is a substantial lack of unity among the political parties and the citizens of the United States. At the federal level, the two political parties refuse to work together in the best interest of our country. In addition to seeking reelection, their main focus is furthering their political agenda as they refuse to compromise and negotiate with one another. In addition, citizens do not feel accurately represented by these elected federal officials. The citizens are given limited options when voting because only the dominant parties have a realistic chance of winning.
Are younger voters as careless, as they are often accused of being? Every year older voters discuss the apparent lack of concern of younger voters regarding politics, government and world events. Rather than pointing the blame towards one specific group of people, such as the younger individuals that have reached the voting age, I would rather look at all individuals as a whole. Such as their environment, why individuals may be more careless then others, their parents overall perception and involvement in the community when it comes to voting on community policies and world events. I strongly disagree with the overall statement, individuals no matter their race, gender, class or age, are equally affected by their environment.
