Under the old Act, victims of domestic violence were able to choose whether or not their abusive partner would have charges pressed upon them – the 2012 Act, gives greater power to law enforcement. The Act makes it a responsibility for on duty police officers to investigate suspected cases of abuse and to immediately take action upon it. The new Act has also increased the protection for victims by increasing the consequences for acts of abuse by continuous breach offenders. The new Act will see to breachers facing an increased jail time and also for the amount of penalty units applied. The minimum penalty for breaching a domestic violence order is 2 years imprisonment or 60 penalty units (that’s $6000).
Net Child Pornography According to Sex Offenders and the Internet, written by Kerry Sheldon and Dennis Howitt, “child pornography was considered to be a small and specialist issue-an adjunct to the broader problem of pornography of all sorts” (7). However, in the last decade there has been a considerable increase in child pornography. It led to professional and public awareness of internet use in exacerbating child sexual abuse. Ricky Martin is one of the professionals who work to stop the abuse of children worldwide. His foundation “People for Children” raises public awareness and influences public policy makers on issues such as child pornography, prostitution, and labor servitude.

The increase of violent crimes committed by juveniles rose at a fast rate. Violent crimes committed by juveniles had reached its epidemic proportions by the late 1980s. This is not only affecting the people involved in the marriage, but it affects their families, children, and friends. Even though during my lifetime the divorce rates have been leveling off it is still a big part of our society. There are multiple social factors that led to the rising rates of divorce during the 1960s and 1970s and there are also ways that we can help lower the divorce rate even more by simply educating the teenage generation. In many divorce cases children are involved.
Sex and Violence in the Mainstream Media: Hurting Our Youth With the increase in violence in the media and multiple forms of entertainment, our youth are viewing violent acts on a regular basis. The violent acts haven’t been viewed by the public forever either, just recently since the rise in the TV and the internet the media has become easier to broadcast to a broad range of people. “Indeed, six medical and public health professional organizations held a Congressional Public Health Summit on July 26, 2000, and issued a Joint Statement on the Impact of Entertainment Violence on Children.” This statement noted that, “Entertainment violence can lead to increases in aggressive attitudes, values, and behavior, particularly in children.” (Anderson, 355).
