Lately, there have been many news stories about young adults who have committed suicide due to cyberbullying. In today’s society, the internet has become very common and it plays a major role in teenagers’ lives. They can shop, express their thoughts, and even make new friends online. It is also important to note how easy it is to distribute information across the internet in very little time. While there are positive outcomes of the internet, there still exist dangerous aspects to it, such as bullying.
Children are meeting sexual predators on the internet and forming relationships with them and unknowingly allowing them into their lives. Parents must talk to their children about the dangers of the internet. Technology is a great learning tool for them and they will be far more advanced than we were as children, but it also opens the door for unwanted predators who will take advantage of children. With a society more focused on wealth and having a good job and long lasting careers some children are often left in the care of daycare providers. You can often look on the internet and find video after video of the abuse and neglect that goes on in daycares.

Cyber bullying is when someone writes humiliating comments about someone on the World Wide Web. Cyber bullying is when an adolescent is harassed, humiliated, embarrassed, threatened or tormented using digital technology, such as the computers, and cell phones. Online computer exploration opens the world up for children, broadening their horizons and exposing them to different cultures and ways of life, but they can be exposed to dangers as they explore the Information Highway. “Today, more than 25 million children in the United States, or 40% of children two to seventeen years old, are using the Internet” (McAfee 1). The warning signs of bullying should not be ignored, therefore it is important to truly understand the affects that bullying holds on children. During my research I found that children can be bullied for many reasons which many include: how fast or slow they learn, choice of lifestyles, height (too tall or too short), race, religion, where they live, their style of clothing or hairstyle, the way they speak, wearing glasses or braces, their disability or for no reason at all. One example of bulling is from a February 2008 news story about a kid named Larry King. He was murdered for being gay. It said in People Magazine that another kid killed Larry by shooting him in the head twice.
