The Backwards BCS The Bowl Championship Series (BCS) Must Go The Bowl Championship Series is a corrupt and wrong headed system. The BCS has about as much chance of determining a true national champion as one legged man in a rear end kicking contest. This bizarre system in which a combination of data entered into a series of computer programs, votes from coaches,
However, the most ideal theory for how Big Brother came to an end is that the middle class, also known as the Outer Party, overthrew the government themselves and took over the power. Goldstein describes how Big Brother came to power and holds control of it; he explains which possibility for the downfall of a government is the most accurate. The book also discusses the geographic division of the world in between three major regions: Oceania, Eastasia, and Eurasia. Goldstein argues that “each of the three powers… is in fact unconquerable, and could only become conquerable through slow demographic changes which a government with wide powers can easily avert” (pg 207). Therefore it is assumed that Big Brother’s downfall could not have happened because of a more powerful government took over, since all three nations are equal in power and cannot take over the other.

The subsequent rise of nationalism in Prussian politics and deterioration of Austro-Prussian relations ensured that, by 1866, Prussia could defeat her nearest rivals in just six weeks. Upon initial examinations, the outcome of the events of 1848-49 seems to be a total failure of liberalism, with tradition feudal rulers resurfacing and democracy disposed of. Even as a vehement liberal supporter, JS Mill admitted that support for nationalism so far outweighed that for liberalism that the people were “willing to abet their rulers in crushing… liberty and independence.” The manifestation of liberalism through the Frankfurt Parliament was wholly unsuccessful, with only illusory powers to its name leading to a reliance on the traditional forces of the Austrian and Prussian armies. Frederick William IV’s labelling of the German crown as “a diadem moulded out of the dirt and dregs of revolution, disloyalty and treason” proved the Parliament’s lack of authority and the renewed power of the traditional ruling monarchy. Germany’s “first flirtation with… parliamentary democracy” ended in dissolution in 1849, seemingly demonstrating the political insignificance of the 1848 revolutions on Germany.
“Bong Hits 4 Jesus” “Bong Hits for Jesus” is in reference to the 2002 freedom of speech case between Deborah Morse and Joseph Frederick. It all began when Morse, a high school principle, suspended 18-year-old Frederick after he displayed a banner that read “bong hits 4 Jesus” across the street from the school during the 2002 Olympic torch relay. As a result, Frederick sued, claiming that his constitutional right to freedom of speech was violated. His suit was dismissed by the federal district court, but on the appeal, the ninth circuit court reversed it, concluding that Frederick’s speech rights were violated. In the end, the court ruled in favor of Morse.
Taylor 1 Brent Taylor Professor Jane Smyre Eng Comp Mon-Wed 1:00 19 February 2012 The Committee On Public Information On the 28th of June, 1914, a young Yugoslav nationalist named Gavrilo Princip assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife, Sophie, the Duchess of Hohenberg. This began a period of diplomatic maneuvering by Austria-Hungary, Germany, France, Russia, and Great Britain that would eventually lead to one of the most massive wars in history, World War I. At the outset of the war, the United States followed a policy of non-intervention and generally avoided conflict in an attempt to broker peace. Through the next few years, the United States was inexorably pulled towards the conflict by not only pressures
Labour lost power in 1924 because of events it could not control rather than its record in Government. Ninety years ago today, the British political landscape was shattered by the election of the first Labour government, the Annual Register called it ‘A revolution in British politics as profound as that associated with the Reform Act of 1832’. After an inconclusive election on 6 December 1923 resulting in a hung parliament resulted in Ramsay MacDonald taking office as both Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary leading a minority government on 22 January 1924. However labour’s time in the lime light was cut short; on the 8th of October that same year the Macdonald administration was voted out of parliament. The nature of the labour’s downfall is fickle as it is arguable whether or not labour’s downfall is owed to
Sokolove then illustrates the magnitude of this broken record by saying, “Now, for a moment, imagine some equivalent of Beamon’s “leap of the century” this month in Beijing. Let’s say that the world record in the men’s 100 meters — recently lowered two-hundredths of a second, to 9.72 seconds, by Usain Bolt of Jamaica — is smashed by a full tenth of a second. Or that the Australian swimmer Libby Trickett’s new world record of 52.88 seconds in the women’s 100-meter freestyle falls to 51 seconds flat.” He talks about how today we would be much more skeptical of any other kind of record broken in that manor. Sokolove talks about how today people would see this and immediately be skeptical of doping or some form of cheating, he compares it to SpyGate with the New England Patriots, and the cases of Floyd Landis and Roger Clemens and shows how they were cast away as cheaters in their sport. He brings up how other athletes who choose not to use these drugs feel as if their fellow competitors have cheated them.
Patrick Kim HIS-112 US Hist Since Reconst August 4, 2010 The United States presidential election of 2000 was the epic battle between Republican candidate George Walker Bush and Democratic candidate Al Gore. At the time George Bush was the governor of Texas and Al Gore was the Vice President to Bill Clinton. The unfortunate outcome of the election was the victory of Bush narrowly winning the November 7th election with 271 electoral votes compared to Gore’s 266(Federal Election Commission). The winner of the election was determined by the 25 electoral votes coming from Florida and this is where the major controversy stems from. Clearly, some awry events occurred that prevented the election of the true President of the United States, Al Gore.
