Being able to communicate effectively with professionals help to work together in the interests of the children’s wellbeing. Children can pick up on poor relationships and will become unsettled and anxious if they sense tension and discord. Communication is also the crucial foundation for all children’s learning and social development. Early years practitioners have a vital role in supporting the communication development of all children, especially those with a communication disability. Projects such as the Effective Provision of Pre-School Education (EPPE) and Peers Early Education Partnership (PEEP) have been instrumental in highlighting the long term impact that high quality early years provisions can have on young children.

When children are growing up they may require the use of a range of services, depending on their needs and support requirements. It is important for the services involved in each individual young person to work together to achieve the best possible outcomes for children and young people. This is multi agency working and it is an effective way of supporting not only young people but also their families. The bringing together of practitioners and professional from different areas provides an integrated way of working and aims to provide support to children and young people earlier to ensure they meet the Every Child Matters outcomes.

What makes a good Early Years Practitioner? The strength and success of any early years practice relies on the expertise and experience of the practitioners who work there. A good early year’s practitioner should be a good role model to the children and remain so at all times. They should enjoy working with children, love being around them and be totally passionate about their work. They need to have the drive and ambition to always do better and self improve.
1.2 Relationship building is important when working with children and young people. The way this is done is by being a positive role model. The young person must feel comfortable when I am helping/supporting the young person with work. When working with children I have to make sure that when working with then that I use easy to understand words. Towards children I must show a caring approach and listen to them when they are asking me question and make eye contact so they know that I am listening to them.
