LEGISLATION RELEVANT TO INFECTION CONTROL Health and safety at work act (1974) This is the primary piece of legislation covering occupational health and safety in the UK, and is enforced by the health and safety executive (HSE). It states that the employer has a duty to provide a safe working environment and must carry out full risk assessments in order to achieve this. Employees must also be adequately trained to deal with these risks. In addition, under this act employers also have a duty to protect the welfare of others who may be affected (e.g. patients, visitors).
This includes using words, feedback, action, body language and gestures. Communication can make a person’s quality of life better, especially if they are in pain or distress, or to express feelings, wishes or desires. People communicate in order to establish and maintain relationships with others, to give and receive information and instructions, to understand and be understood, to share opinions, knowledge, feelings, and emotions, to give encouragement and show others they are valued. 1.2 Explain how communication affects relationships in an adult care setting: Good communication will enable me to build strong relationship based on trust. The mentor will monitor the individuals performance to determine competency in a particular area of performance which has been observed. Supervision should be able to identify the positives and any area of concern which the individual could improve on or could benefit from further training. How does reflective practise contribute to improving the quality of service provision? Reflective practice is imperative in order to ensure that high standards are kept continuously as circumstances, individuals and environment’s change. In order to reflect you must continuously be aware of approaches used and how they can be changed or developed to improve the level of care provided. Continually improving and adapting approaches benefits both service users and practitioners, ensuring that each individual needs are catered for.
