Keeping clean is essential for good health. Poor hygiene can cause skin complaints, unpleasant smells and bacterial or parasitic infections. Self-esteem, confidence and motivation can all be altered by our body image, often reflected on our ability to care for ourselves and keep good hygiene practices Most people hate to be talked about, especially in a negative manner. By ensuring that our body is
Many people ‘forget’ to wash their hands after using the toilet or before handling foods; this can cause a great deal of illness and even death. By being well presented, clean and tidy, people can feel more confident, especially in social situations. Our chances of succeeding either in work or social settings, or even with the opposite sex can be altered by maintenance of good hygiene. Maintaining hygiene practices helps to reduce the risks of ill health, but equally important affects how we and others perceive ourselves and can influence our levels of confidence and self-esteem which can affect many aspects of our lives. 2.

Part Two Residents are spoken to on a one to one basis by their keyworkers. It is explained that if they have poor hygiene and make themselves ill then this could be passed onto other people Part Three Personal hygiene routines are discussed and reviewed between the resident, their keyworker and the manager. The resident is supported to decide whether they need to wash more frequently (for example if they are incontinent they may smell and need to wash more often) or whether their current plan is sufficient. Outcome Three Part One Factors that contribute to good personal hygiene are: * Washing * Showering * Washing hair * Cleaning clothes * Washing hands after using the toilet Part Two Residents culture and faith/beliefs are supported by ensuring that if said culture, faith or belief includes ceremonial hand-washing or maybe involves wearing certain clothes for a period of time then all these things are included in their life plans and are risk assessed to ensure the health of the residents are put first but that they are respected at all times. Poor personal hygiene can have a negative effect on the individual, and affects social relationships with others. The individuals that I work with can sometimes struggle to maintain their own personal hygiene, so need my support. Keeping clean is essential for good health. HSC 24 Principles of safeguarding and protection in Health and Social Care 1.1 & 1.2 Define the different types of abuse & identify the signs and symptoms There are many different types of abuse which happen in the health and social care setting. People need to use care services as they may have been abused, neglected or exploited in the past. As a care worker it is our job to be concerned and to offer care and protection to these people. It is sad to say; however, sometimes it is the care worker who becomes the person responsible for neglect and exploitation. They misuse their power of trust and use the influence they have on the individual.
Maltreatment is the wrongful treatment of an individual who is being cared for. In health and social care settings, abuse and maltreatment is not uncommon so it is also important that staff report any suspicious activity which may lead to the abuse and maltreatment of any individual. Infants and young children can be most vulnerable to certain forms of maltreatment, such as abusive head trauma, physical or medical neglect. The demands of caring for these children may overwhelm their parents. Due to their small physical size, early developmental status, and need for constant care it is important for all health and social care agencies involved in that child's life to make sure that they always look for the signs of maltreatment or abuse.
I have witnessed that hospitals treat anyone that show up in the emergency department whether the patient is insured, underinsured or uninsured. In saying this, it is always my question that to what extent hospitals provide services for those who do not have health insurance and/or for those who cannot afford to pay for the care provided. A journal article published by Lancet in 2002 explains "when uninsured admitted to hospital, they do not get the same level of care as that provided to the insured" (Lancent, 2002). It is unambiguous that an individual would get an emergency medical treatment but he/she is required to pay back for the service provided. For this reason, I believe healthcare in United States is more of a privilege than it is a right, and It should be a human right to have access to health care.
Sharp edges on a bath seat could cause skin tears. Items that are dirty or unhygienic like bathmats, commodes, and bath hoists can spread infections easily. Unclean items should be reported to appropriate person and cleansed thoroughly before use. Describe ways to ensure the individual can summon help when alone during personal care. (2.4) If a person is alone during personal care, they need a means of calling for assistance if needed.
