P3 Unit 11 Safeguarding adults and promoting independence Those who work in health or social care environments provide care of a high standard and care for the individuals in a professional manor the care they provide may be from making house calls (domiciliary carer) sorting medications, hospitals (providing physically care to a high standard), care homes 24hr care day and nights this includes bathing if the service user is unable to do this by themselves. All health and social care settings are different and the care they provide will be different for every individual and every care setting. Abuse is “A violation of an individual’s human and civil rights by any other person or persons.” There are many types of abuse one of the types of abuse is institutional abuse, people’s rights can be abused by the practice and procedures of the organisation that cares for them. In the past, care organisations have tied confused people to chairs to stop them wandering and harming themselves. This form of abuse could well be accepted as common practice across an organisation. New members of staff can be introducing to poor, and potentially abusive, care practices by staff telling them ‘this is the way we do things here’. Example of this is leaving the door open in a toilet so people can see so you can check on them this is an invasion of privacy as these people are dependent on others for care (locus parentis). Bullying within the care services for example is having favourite service users and treating others differently, this is bullying as it’s not the same treatment this includes UN professional comments towards an individual’s body when dressing or bathing them and also feeding them to fast. Abuse happens mostly in care homes making them most at risk, because the individuals are vulnerable are they may have the following physical disabilities, ill health,
