UK as a tourism generating region "Tourism compromises the activities of persons travelling to and staying in places outside their usual environmental for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes"( World Tourism Organization )2013. The term of tourist has been used for the first time almost three centuries ago and its purpose was to describe the travellers in one word. Now the term is used to define the domestic travellers and the international ones. ( Pearce, 2005)A tourism generating region represents a zone or a country, where people live and work and from where travel for distinct reasons. This essay will discuss UK's performances as a tourism generating region. It will explain the connections between the enabling factors, motivations and the behaviour of UK residents and it will analyze the effect on the choice of destination. There are a certain number of factors that are enabling people to take part in tourism activities. The countries that generates a high number of tourists are places where the residents benefit of a certain number of factors. The UK has been considered one of the countries that generates tourism for a long period of time because it fulfils all the social, political and economic conditions . Academics have named these conditions enabling factors. One of the factors is the relaxations and recreation time and according to Mercer the UK residents have 28 days legal holiday entitlements and 8 days off for public holydays. The paid leave right is very important in tourism because it influences the number of trips that a person can take.( Inkson and Minnaert, 2012)In order to become a tourist a person needs leisure time and also money to spend on travelling.
