Introduction Many business managers today are not aware of the effect that motivation does have on their business, and therefore this is important they learn and understand the factors and methods that determine positive motivation in the workplace. Motivation is something that is approached differently by different business and the responsibility of its combination lies with all immediate supervisors of staff. Designs are made on hunches - there is no decisions based on facts and data. Statements like “even if it is a little off spec was tolerable, we need market share now” shows a poor quality attitude and the schedule is more important. The inspector had used only a sample of testing to find the eight rejected cases but had no way of tracking where they had gone shows a lack of in-process controls and a lack of product tractability.
This meant a project manager could not have the right kind of authority and control over the group. Disrespect and other forms of underlying issues might have and could have contributed to the fact that the project manager was not able to cope with the situation and was not able act as the authority figure to be well respected and heard. Another aspect could have been that each staff who was assigned as a project manager lacked the know-how of project management. Project management is not something that is easily done and managed. The proper education and training is very essential and crucial.
A day in life of Alex Sandler 1. How would you describe Alex's leadership style (according to “Leadership Run Amok”)? What are the advantages/disadvantages of Alex's style? Alex´s leadership style is only oriented in objectives, therefore that kind of style could be useful in a situation of confusion or when it needs to deliver a strong performance. Nevertheless, could be really unsocial and unsustainable when it has to work in stable situation, because mainly his peers and subordinates they will not accept or tolerate that style for long periods of time.
Problem and Issue Identification: General Overriding Problem: The case mainly focuses on the challenges of implementing change programs at Simmons. There is resistance to change. (The sources of resistance are derived from both individuals and organization.) Besides the resistance to change, the dominant organizational culture exists within Simmons is not in consistency with the Simmons’ core organizational culture. This inconsistency further hinders the Simmons from implementing change programs smoothly.
This seldom happens as there is a perception that by helping John, he may be next in line for an executive promotion. As for the procurement function, the project manager is forced into assuming the responsibility and spends a significant amount of time in tracking down raw materials. The site superintendents believe that they should function as true project managers; are very unhappy for not being involved in the procurement function and hence are not supportive of the project managers. From the above, it is quite clear that roles and responsibilities across the organization are not clearly defined. There is no structure in the organizations’ chain of command.
Case study: Club Chaos The main organizational problem affecting Club Chaos was the poor management and leadership. The senior managers failed to implement policies and procedures for good work environment to encourage hard work and efficiency. Cathy displayed exceptional management potential for well run department, but she resigned without attempts to retain her or understand the reasons. There were lack of organizational goals, improper recruiting system based on nepotism especially with management appointments, No formal training/education, no performance evaluation/appraisal system, no customer service/satisfaction, poor management tactics to run business and no promotion, loyalty or sense of worth or value of employees. The managers didn’t follow any organizational behaviour.
