Isaac Wallace David Kleinman ENG 111 29 November 2011 Positive Poet. From the controversial title, to the unconventional rhyme style, I'm Gay is truly a unique Hip Hop album. The album is a digression from Lil B self created "Based Freestyle" improvisational compositions that fill his catalogue, instead favoring his conscious, positive, and largely free verse style. As also implied by the album art, the central theme of the work is freedom from mental slavery. Lil B makes little of generally controversial subjects in hip hop such as homophobia; Lil B has diamond encrusted chains but questions the basis of his excess and extravagance.
History of American rap; 1990's Rapper MC Hammer became a huge success after his multi-platinum album, "Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em" turned into the #1 record. The first single, "U Can't Touch This" was on the top 10 of the billboard Hot 100. MC Hammer became one of the most popular and successful rappers of the early 90's. His album, having sold over 18 million copies, made rap music rise to a whole new level of popularity. Another rapper, Dr. Dre, released his album, "The Chronic," in 1992 and helped establish West Coast gangsta rap as more commercially viable than East Coast hip hop.
His first album, 2pacalypse now, was a success among many of the underdogs of America. It made Tupac one of the first socially conscious rappers of the early 90’s because the album spoke on many of the problems going on in society. Many people were able to relate to Tupac, regardless of where they were from. Though Tupac was a born leader, he had many legal problems as well. He had constant run-ins with the law which made his leadership very controversial.
Jay Z Chapter 1 Grant Matherly 1) How smart is Jay Z? In my mind, even at a young age Jay Z was a very talented and smart individual. He was able to create lyrics and use them for his raps. He was so talented at doing this that even his friends would try to steal his lyrics from him and recite them like the lyrics were their own. This shows that even though you may grow up in a rough part of the world, that there are still very gifted and intelligent people wherever you go; Jay Z is a prime example of this.
Nolan Jackson September 23, 2010 Society and Social Behavior Roderick Graham Nerdcore Hip Hop Nerdcore Hip Hop is the newest genre of music that nobody knows about. Created in the late 1990's by Nerdcore Legend Damian Hess a.k.a MC Frontalot, Nerdcore Hip Hop lyrics are a combination of the common hip hop style mixed with "nerdish" type themes. Most of the rappers that perform Nerdcore are self pro-claimed nerds. I am now going to describe some of the elements of the Nerdcore culture which is symbols, language, values/beliefs, and norms. Since majorities of the Nerdcore artist are "nerds" at heart, most of them are very well educated.
He is the image that most do not want to see, but cannot look away. Eminem takes the traditional image of an American Hero and destabilizes it by gaining popularity despite his controversial, offensive lyrics and despite how much people want him censored. He redefines America's ideas about the American Hero while perceptions and attitudes about big issues of the day change as well. As the common legend for an American Hero dictates, Eminem has extreme resilience that allows him to overcome adversity—such as a difficult childhood, being a white artist in a black industry, and endless controversy about his lyrics—and prove himself as a whole new kind of hero. Eminem’s childhood was rampant with poverty and constant moves across states with his mother, who he grew intensely hateful towards.
Tupac Shakur Final Draft Tupac Shakur was one of the greatest rappers of all time. As good as he was a rapper, he was a well known poet even though many people considered him a thug. He wrote many poems that expressed how he was feeling and talked about other people’s lives. The poem “The Rose That Grew From Concrete’’ is one of my favorite poems from him. It inspired me to never give up on my dreams and no matter how hard it gets and no matter how many struggles you have to go through, at the end it’s all worth it.
National Living Treasure Whether we admit it as Americans or not, we all have a people that we designate, honor, and financially support. We just do it without realizing what is going on. Every album or song we buy from our favorite singer/songwriter goes directly into the pocket of the artist. Now with the help of I-Tunes, artists are making more and more money than they used to, no contest. Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. is probably one of the most influential rappers alive, and more than likely one of the most well-known across America.
Levi Massine 1/31/14 English 10 Hip Hop Music And Culture Although rap music is stereotyped as being violent and a bad influence, it may surprise you that the album The Marshall Mathers LP by Eminem, was one of the fastest selling albums ever. Robinson 1 Dyasia Robinson Mr. Armstrong UNST 130.07 3.23.12 My Favorite Song Analysis One of my favorite rapper/lyricist is T. I. In mostly all of his songs, he’s talks about a lot of real-life situations that he has been in. I refer to him as a lyricist because most rappers rap about money, cars, and clothes. They don’t look at the stuff that important to them anymore when they become famous. T. I. tells him story of how he went from rags to riches but he does not focus on only the materialist things.
