The True Godfather Robert De Niro and Al Pacino are American acting legends and icons. Most actors could only hope for a tenth of their movie successes. Both De Niro and Pacino have been acting in blockbuster movies since the 1970s. They both got their first taste of success in Martin Scorsese’s “Godfather” films. Over the next five decades both men have acted in over 110 movies. Robert De Niro and Al Pacino are arguably the best actors over the past few generations. The two actors are very similar in many aspects, but Robert De Niro holds the edge over Al Pacino slightly. What separates these actors is their acting awards, acting style, and acting legacy. Robert De Niro and Al Pacino are two of the most decorated actors with both men winning their share of awards. The two actors have combined for fourteen Academy Award and twenty-three Golden Globe nominations. Al Pacino won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for “Scent of a Woman” (best actor, 1993) and another Golden Globe for “Serpico” (best actor, 1974). On the other hand, Robert De Niro has won two academy awards for his roles in “Godfather II” (best support actor, 1974) and “Raging Bull” (best actor, 1982). Along with winning an Academy Award for “Raging Bull”, De Niro also won a Golden Globe for the same role. Pacino has won more Golden Globes; meanwhile, De Niro has won more Academy Awards. Pacino has been nominated for more awards than De Niro including “Godfather I” and Godfather II”. In the “Godfather” movies, Pacino stars as Michael Corleone, one of his most recognizable roles, yet didn’t win any awards for his role. Marlon Brando won the Academy Award and Golden Globe for best actor in “The Godfather” playing the unconquerable, Vito Corleone.
