Police Officers Assaulted or Killed in the Line of Duty Becoming a law enforcement officer can be one of the most rewarding jobs in the world. However, being a law enforcement officer can also be a very dangerous job. Statistics show that officers killed or assaulted in the line of duty is on the rise. The goal of policing has five basic goals: enforce laws, preserve the peace, prevent crimes, protect civil rights and civil liberties and provide services. The men and woman of law enforcement risk their lives daily to make sure the citizens in their area are safe.
The media can make a considerable contribution to these investigations by providing access to and engaging the support of the general public. In this sense, an effective media strategy is a vital part of an investigative approach. However, scholarly study of the factors affecting homicide clearances is at the same point as scholarly study of police patrol officers more than 50 years ago. (Hay, Fortson, Hollist, Altheimer & Schaible, 2006) There is strong support for the argument that the prominence of homicide and the particular importance of homicide clearances cause homicide detectives to work aggressively to clear all homicides irrespective of where they occur or the characteristics of homicide victims. Also, that outpour from communities and media coverage force investigators to focus on highly publicized cases.
I feel as if the US needs to be more careful with their way of getting such law enforcement officers. Not that their way of selecting officers in today’s world isn’t enough there just needs to be more added to it. In conclusion the movie “US Marshals” conveys multiple levels of criminal behavior. Not only from a criminal running away from law enforcement but rogue cops also committing criminal acts. Before anyone is sent to jail and there is suspicion about the case their needs to be detective work done so that the system doesn’t make the wrong
After they finished last in their division every year of their existence the timing of high draft picks for a decade created a good team. However, now that their players are now well trained and have star-power they will probably be scouted and bought by big-market teams. This system is not fair. If the salary cap was set so that even team has the same amount of money to spend on players, then every thing would be equal, and
Police officers have an important part in criminal justice. There are pros and cons for becoming a police officer. The public depends on the police to keep their communities and themselves safe. “Some concerns, such as corruption, on-the-job dangers, and the use of deadly force, derive from the very nature of police work.” (Schmalleger 266) Policing is a 24 hour a day job because “they are expected to exercise authority when necessary, whether on or off duty.” (Gadek,
However, because society is ever evolving, the criminal justice system will also continue to evolve better to protect society. The criminal justice system is highly valuable to the United States because of its ability to evolve and adjust to the changes in crimes, society, and laws associated with the Constitution. Without our criminal justice system, the United States would cease to function properly and
Which is why throughout my public service career, I have fought to build a robust safety infrastructure and advocate for positive police- community relationships. To do this will require the expansion of successful and targeted policing strategies while investing in technologies that support intelligence- driven responses to crime. I aim to reduce the borough deficiency in camera coverage by expanding camera use in all five boroughs. I will push for the Safe Streets Security Camera Act to create a private security camera registry, which will aid law enforcement officials in solving crime. In like manner, the issue of racial profiling featuring Stop and Frisk and marijuana violation needs to be tackled.
Predictive Policing Predictive Policing is one of a range of tools using better data, more finely crunched, to predict crime. They seem to promise better law-enforcement. Crime is one of the hardest aspects to have a first responder appear unless they are in the right place at the right time. Police departments around the world are taking on a new strategy to help them enforce the law, reach respondents and ultimately lessen the crime wave in known areas. Even though some fear that this type of system may ultimately bring on automation to police forces and lose the human interaction, others feel it is great effort to protect communities.
I think this book will help in explaining the profiler's duties and how they will help law enforcement. Evidence of Policing: Fairness, and Effectiveness in U. S. Law Enforcement. By Wesley Skogan (2003) APA citation on previous page. This book is a study of police research; it focuses on studies that examine how American policing actually works, they documented the enormous discretion enjoyed by officers on the street and the racially discriminatory way in which many decisions were made. I think this book will help in letting us know what is to be expected of law enforcement agencies, and how they think.
When they receive the call they don’t know what to expect, they don’t know if they're going to be alive the next day or not. Every time they respond to a call it could be the last day of their lives. Even if they retire the average life span for a firefighter after retirement is 5 years, because of all the smoke that they breathe in. While athletes can retire after 5 years of playing a sport, and relax the rest of their lives, if they’re smart they would invest their money and still make millions of dollars a years doing nothing. I feel that Pro Athletes shouldn’t be making so much money, they make millions and sometimes even hundreds of millions to play a sport.
