The novel ‘The Survivor’ by James Herbert is a suspenseful horror/fiction which retells the supernatural aspect to a plane crash in the town of Eton that even though was one of the worst in airline history seemed no more than a gruesome disaster. The book is about the main character the co-pilot Keller who is the only survivor out of the more than 300 killed and his struggle to find the answer to his own survival. He seeks the answers by meeting a psychic called Hobbs and a priest who together find the truth. The spirits of the hundreds of people who were killed all chose to save Keller’s life in order to preserve him so he can avenge their deaths. On board the plane was a man who bought two thirds of a powerful jet engine making company while the owner was in need, he was going to fire all the employees and hire his own. In order to stop this from happening the previous owner and creator of the company put a bomb on the plane. This is what caused the disaster; Keller found all this out looking up at the shotgun barrel the bomb planter was holding. In this breath taking ending Keller gets shot but while dying sees the deranged man shoot himself. But looking at his own body, burnt to a crisp; Keller finally understands that he didn’t survive the crash but his presence was only preserved to set the unholy forces and his own soul
