September 11, 2001, is a date in which will be remembered in the minds of Americans forever. Four commercial airlines were hijacked. The hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners World Trade Center in New York City, killing everyone on board and many others working in the building, and also killing an estimated 343 firefighters. The hijackers also crashed a third airliner into the Pentagon. The fourth plane crashed into a field near Shanksville in rural Somerset County, Pennsylvania, after some of its passengers and flight crew were said to attempt to retake control of the plane. 2,999 people were estimated as dead, and a massive 6, 291+ were considered injured. On this date, 9/11, I was 11 years old in the 5th grade of grammar school. At that time I never went to New York before, but it to me is a massive city with a lot of pride and tradition. Immediately after the attacks, airlines were stopped for several days, for fear of further attacks. Gradually, airplanes were allowed to fly again under additional security. Once planes were up and flying again, air travel was still low because of the cautious citizens. Also the citizens of New York suffered a lot of post-traumatic stress due to the amount death that had occurred. Besides all the negative effects, American citizens reconnected and became closer with there families and god. Also American citizens took a great sense in patriotism and backed America’s decision to go to war. In conclusion, the horrid event of 9/11 was a day that will be remembered by American citizens forever. This event showed the real heroes, like firemen and policemen who risked there lives and suffered the ultimate fate, well trying to save citizens.
