Sociology July 10, 2011 The Single Life of a parent: a Rising Community We as humans are naturally inclined to be curious about the world, the things around us. In an ever changing world new cultures appear, new language and phrases are brought about and passion for new research is cultivated. Science, medicine, and current events are topics that always need to be updated, depending on the research or fieldwork we participate in. The sub culture of single women has many things in common with each other from struggles, to goals, and they simply want to be the best mothers they can be. It intrigues me to know why women feel so obligated to take care of a child two people created. I was once told if I were ever in that situation to give that baby to the father and let him take care of it while I lived my life. This may sound good because in a way I would be giving one man a taste of what countless women go through when father’s aren’t around. It tugs on my heart the thought of me giving my child to the father because as a woman I automatically have motherly instincts. I believe women are nurturing people so they feel the need to take responsibility for a child two people created. Approximately 84% of custodial parents are mothers, and16% of custodial parents are fathers (about, section 5). My observation of this culture didn’t really surprise me but I was enlightened to new information about this typical lifestyle. Women over years have become more independent and are often breaking the conservative values by being the one who is head of house hold, bringing home the majority income. This assignment allowed me to have more respect for the culture of single women and the life they live. In today’s time it is more common to see single women and accept it but I learned through research not all single women we see are single because of unfortunate situations
