Just this past year a controversial law SB1070 was signed by Arizona’s governor, were local police have the power to stop anyone on reasonable suspicion that is an illegal immigrant. They have the right to arrest them if they don’t have any documentation such as a driver’s license, work permit, or resident card that shows legal status. The biggest objection of this law is racial profiling and how police can just arrest anyone by race or culture. Arizona population for Illegal’s is an estimate amount of a half a million people. The estimate of people could have been around for years since youth or with in the
Arizona is a state bordering Mexico and ruled mainly by Republicans. The new immigration scandal started in Arizona when the governor of this state, Jan Brewer signed a new law that authorizes local police to check people immigration status. Supporters say that, since the federal government does not care about immigration reform, that they do not protect the border, through which all the time pass illegal immigrants, mainly from Mexico, the job have to be done by local, state service. Opponents of the law express the concern that it will lead to racial problem. People will be checked because of their appearance or skin color.
For every illegal they arrest and detain, more will enter the country. This mimics a federal law, so it's not lending any credibility to helping out. Rather it will cost more tax money to arrest and detain all immigrants and maintained them in jails until their status is determined. This means more tax money is going into dealing with all immigrants being detained. All these immigration laws have consequences and some are worst than others.
Betsy Jimenez English Composition II Ms. Bonnie Lee January 7, 2013 Immigration, Arizona SB 1070 “Mexican Americans were dispossessed very much of their land and subject to discriminatory treatment in every aspect of their lives: in employment, in housing and in education. Overt discrimination is probably worst in Texas, where the state law enforcement agency known as the Texas rangers has long had a well-deserved reputation for brutality toward Mexican Americans”(Daniels, 314). History has proven to repeat itself throughout the years. As we grow stronger as a nation we have been pushing those who have helped us create America to the borders of embarrassment. By allowing racial profiling to be practiced, the Arizona immigration law
A Federal Challenge The Justice Department on July 6 had filed a lawsuit in federal court in Phoenix to challenge the state law, contending that controlling immigration is a federal responsibility. Polls, however, suggest that a majority of Americans support the Arizona law, or at least the concept of a state having a strong role in immigration enforcement. The lawsuit had been expected since mid-June 2010, when Obama administration officials first disclosed they would contest the legislation, adding to several other suits seeking to have courts strike it down. The federal government added its weight to the core argument in those suits, which also had argued that the Arizona law usurps powers to control immigration reserved for federal authorities. The main suit was brought by the American Civil Liberties Union, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund and other civil rights
Include any important potential economic, social, or political pressures, and exclude inconsequential facts. | Law enforcement officials have the responsibility to determine if the offense is grave enough that it requires apprehension of the offender based on probable cause. In this case however, the individual was driving under the influence so he is risking the lives of those around him and the he is also putting his own life in danger. He is also breaking the law, morally and ethically, the individual should immediately go to jail but there must be a trial first. The officers must have enough probable cause or sufficient evidence to validate the arrest of the offender.
Jenna Taylor Emily Bayus Lindsay Shewmaker English 102 1 December 2013 Illegal Immigration: The problem and the Solution [INSERT INTRODUCTION HERE] In the United States of America, as of 2011, there are an estimated eleven million illegal immigrants from across the globe (mostly coming from Mexico). Illegal immigrants that come from around the world are simply looking for the good ole “American Dream”, and that’s what we have to offer, right? So why not just let them enter peacefully, so that they can fulfill this dream, and live happily ever after. I mean heck, the only reason that we, as Americans have any opposition over illegal immigration is because of racism, right? Wrong.
Arizona is one of the states where discrimination against immigrants has become a serious discriminative problem, which people who is illegally in the country have to face. An article from the internet says “In April 2010, The Arizona Governor Jan Brewer today signed into law Arizona's discriminatory immigration enforcement bill which requires law enforcement to question individuals about their immigration status during every day police meetings. The law creates new immigration crimes and penalties inconsistent with those in federal law, this new law asserts sweeping authority to detain and transport persons suspected of violating civil immigration laws and prohibits speech and other expressive activity by people who every day is seeking work in order to live” (Par 1). The officers who work in Arizona with this new law are required to ask every person they go across about their migratory status. I think that in some points of view, this law has token to far because they are not only taking advantage of undocumented people but they are also violating the right of freedom of
Customs officers are expected to do their job and put a stop to the drug trafficking but the temptation of making some extra money may be extremely strong. Money is the root of all evil and a lot of people are very selfish. For an example, they know the effects drugs have on a society as a whole but if the price is high enough, they may turn their head and allow the drugs to be brought in. Not only is this wrong, it is damaging to everyone. “It is believed that the loss of the drug trafficking industry in Mexico would cause that country’s economy to shrink by over 63 percent” (DrugAbuse.net, (2012), para.
Illegal immigration is a major issue in the U.S. There has always been a discussion on how to handle illegal immigrant such as should they be allowed to stay or should they be deported. Yet if we really want to solve this issue we have to ask what are the causes for illegal immigration. One major reason for illegal immigration is economic. In Mexico 50% of Mexicans are poor.
