The roles of husbands and wives became more open to negotiation, and a more individualistic idea on the benefits of marriage took shape. More people began to evaluate their marriages, and began to focus more on themselves and what would be the best way for them to go about building a family and becoming a spouse or parent. The result was a transition from the companionate marriage to what Cherlin called individualized marriage. Another type of marriage is the institutionalized marriage. An institutional marriage is based mostly on laws, tradition, and religious belief.
Many debates have happened whether or not these women approach feminism for their time period. The answer to that is ambiguous and depends on how the reader takes in their writings. One can say that even though Wollstonecraft is so obviously pining for co-education, and in that way to be equal to men, she is not promoting equality for anything else. By not wanting to be equal in anything else, how can she be approaching feminism? Pizan so obviously from the start of her writing, introduces how women should behave (from the perspective of a princess), so that her actions shall be beneficial to her and her husband.
I’ve also talked about gay mariages and their will to adopt. In our days changes have appeared tremendeously , in this new world women have become more independant than before and our society have permitted new trends such as the gay mariage. Those specific changes may benefit all of us in our lives. Several changes appear through the educatin of women, the changes in traditional mariages. Finally those changes don’t make the unanimity within the society.
Terms: In my critical evaluation essay there will be many areas in which I will discuss ethos, pathos, and logos because of their relevance in the feminist organization and there effects on how people think. Ethos is something that some believe are standard form of ethics however; what one person my view as good ethics another could see and bad ethics. The whole way that the feminist movement began was with the organization using pathos to get housewife’s to feel unappreciated and to want to join their cause. Logos is how studies and research shows the long term effects that the feminist movement has had on our society. In the article “Now We Can Begin” the author uses pathos to get housewives and other women feel as unappreciated and insignificant as a housewife when she stated (Eastman, 2012) “What, then, is "the matter with women"?
Kendra writes and article about how same-sex adoption isn’t simple but very complicated and difficult. I could use this information of how difficult it is with a testimony from a same-sex couple that has gone through the adoption process. Kendra’s ethos is strong since she used credible sources to gather this information. At the end of the article it lists sources used. With this source it will enhance
In her book, "When Everything Changed: The Amazing Journey of American Women from 1960 To The Present," Gail Collins gives readers insight into the modern history of women, as well as an analysis of what she refers to as the 'feminist dilemma.' In her chronicle of fifty-some years of change (riddled with challenges), Collins details not only the cultural transformation that impacted the rights and roles of American women, but the social, legal, and political events that lead to those changes, and she does so with considerable wit and a sense of levity. In its review of Collins' book, "When Everything Changed: The Amazing Journey of American Women from 1960 To The Present," the New York Times reported that she had observed that by 1960,
It can be said that these roles are not natural but have evolved to become gender specific and are having changed in the last 50 years and will also change in the near future. Conjugal roles are those within the marital life; between husband and wife. Elizabeth Bott (1957) identified two types; segregated and joint. Segregated are those where the couple have separate roles e.g. male is the breadwinner and the female a homemaker/carer.
The most interesting topic among the chapter that I found was the section on: Life expectancy of men vs. women; and it's relation to sex ratio. I have always admired this subject as it pertains to me. Being a female, should I be concerned that I may someday outlive my husband? Or should I be obliged that I am the species that get's more time? Within finding the answer to those self-questions, I thought I might do some research to help obtain my answer.
Evolution of Dating From the nineteenth century until today’s twentieth century the evolution of dating has greatly progressed. Women not being able to speak unless spoken to and now were some run the relationship in today’s century. Advances in today’s technology couples are now able to find each other on dating websites. This topic sparks an interest in me. We are the same people and we live in the same country, but our advances in dating have changed so profoundly.
In the case of Anne, her search for love serves to redeem her past mistakes and, finally, be with the one that she has chosen, not her relatives. This is a big step for the society at that time, because marriage
