Jaws is one that has really ruined the reputation of sharks. Because of this movie some people may say that Amity Island is the most dangerous place for shark attacks. People may also believe that sharks now eat people on purpose, but truly shark attacks are just mistakes. Television shows and movies do not help the reputation of sharks. They are portrayed as huge beasts that go around eating anything.
Susana Cuellar Mrs. Lyday English 101 17 October 2012 “Why I Hunt” In the story “Why I Hunt” readers have a chance to get a passionate hunter’s perspective in what hunting is like. Rick Bass shares his story of an unplanned immigration west to the Yaak valley next to the Kootenai National Forest with his wife. The immigration near this well resourced forest obligated Bass to become more involved in hunting. In the story he helps readers understand how he feels as he hunts in a natural forest rich with a variety of prey. In “Why I Hunt” Rick Bass emphasizes his deep love for hunting and argues that it is an enjoyable activity that helps develop a type of imagination that is almost impossible for non-hunters to obtain.
The narrator is separate from the story, (told in third person limited) and the reader is mostly only aware of Rainsfords thoughts and feelings until the story climaxes, then the game changes. The Most Dangerous Game takes place right after World War I in a jungle with a single mansion inhabited by the human savage, General Zaroff; the actions that were portrayed would not have been viewed as immoral or anything out of the ordinary in an area populated by only wild animals. The slaughter of animals was common for survival during the time period and scenery written about. Today people hunt for sport, but “normal” people do not hunt humans. There was a factual incident that occurred around the 1980s that could have been considered a real life version of The Most Dangerous Game.
No one can hold him back from hunting although Rainsford hunted animals, he probably felt the adrenaline rush of being hunted. In conclusion, Rainsford is a hunter who is cocky, hunts for fun, and doesn’t care about animals. He met a man named Zaroff who hunted human life. Rainsford loved to hunt so he was uncomfortable near Zaroff, He learned that being hunted was not
For instant, he creates a plan to escape from the Cyclopes cave. “Three absent/ I tried them silently together… then slung a man under each middle one.../ so three sheep can convey each man.”(IX. 466-478). Odysseus in this way fools the Cyclopes into letting Odysseus and his men escape from the cave. Odysseus is also clever when he planned out a way to pass through the island of siren, which had a monsters that sang and lured sailors to jump off the ship and swim straight to the monster and it would eat them: “Take me and bind me to the half way up the mast; bind me as I stand upright, with a bond so fast that I cannot possibly break away…If I beg and pray to set me free, then bind me more tightly still.’’(XII.
When he meets Rainsford and tells him about his idea for the most dangerous game, he tells him that he is going to hunt him. Zaroff thinks that putting Rainsford into the woods to fight for his survival will lead to an easy win for himself. Zaroff is wrong. General Zaroff is afraid of being bored. He is afraid that he will conquer every game there
Zaroff and Rainsford are on the same page when it comes to hunting animals; they do not view hunting as morally wrong. However, they hold extremely opposite opinions on that of hunting man. Rainsford becomes appalled by General Zaroff when he
Causey argues that hunting has the potential to be considered moral and ethical, as long as those who hunt display a more humane attitude toward the animals they kill. Also, she makes it quite clear that hunting for sport and reducing an animal to nothing but points and pounds is an activity that can never be argued as moral. Over all, Causey does an excellent job looking at both sides of hunting. She understands the reasoning and thoughts from both hunters and non-hunters. Her opinion consists of both arguments.
Fear makes people do crazy things. In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell and the movie “Quarantine” people face adversity that forces them to fight for themselves by all means. The characters in both, the short story and the movie show that facing difficulties makes people stronger as they begin to value their lives. For instance, the main character in the short story- a big-game hunter from New York, falls off a yacht and swims to an isolated island in the Caribbean, where he is hunted by a Russian aristocrat. The hunt presents him with a lot of unpleasant surprises, but he does anything it takes for him to come out alive.
Characterization is the act of creating and developing a character and they can be both direct and indirect. General Zaroff, a Cossack, is handsome, well educated, conceited, immoral and above all a savage hunter. He tells Rainsford of his invention of a new animal to hunt, because he was bored with the typical sport of hunting. He explains that this invention is one that can match his wits because it can reason. Zaroff believe that there are men of lesser value, and calls them ,“… The scum of the Earth-sailors from tramp ships-lascars, blacks, Chinese, whites, mongrels- a thoroughbred horse or hound is worth more than a score of them.” Rainsford comes to understand he has no choice but to play the game.
