Sharks are underestimated by people. Some sharks are long, short, dangerous, plant eaters, and some animal eaters. When people think of sharks most people think of their teeth. Sharks swim through the ocean eating anything they can find. They will tear apart humans and anything else that they can find. But do they mean to eat humans? Shark attacks are very rare. This is said by Samuel Gruber, a veteran University of Miami shark researcher. He is a consultant for Shark Defense. Shark Defense is a research company developing semiochemical, magnetic, and electrochemical repellents to reduce shark interactions.1 He says that you are more likely to be hit by lightning than to be attacked by a shark.2 Research says that you are more likely to drown in the ocean than to be eaten or killed by a shark. The sea itself is more dangerous that the sharks living in it. So why are people so afraid? Sharks often create images of strong teeth and huge long bodies swimming through the ocean looking for prey. Most people are scared by any images of sharks from seeing a fin sticking out of the water to picture images of them. They are very quick when approaching and attacking prey. Most people are frightened by these images and will jump away when seeing one. Sharks are known for attacking innocent humans and ripping flesh. Most people know that sharks have big teeth. But how do they know? The reputation of sharks is determined by movies. Jaws is one that has really ruined the reputation of sharks. Because of this movie some people may say that Amity Island is the most dangerous place for shark attacks. People may also believe that sharks now eat people on purpose, but truly shark attacks are just mistakes. Television shows and movies do not help the reputation of sharks.
