The History of Starfox Nintendo can be considered the “grand-daddy” of video game companies. It gave us the first home console game system, the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System), and has brought us many beloved video games series that have been played for generations, such as the Super Mario series and the Legend of Zelda series. One, however, has stood out, if for nothing other than it's cast fuzzy-tailed, big eared, anthropomorphic characters. That series is Starfox. Being one of Nintendo's first hits … with the original “Starfox” appearing on the SNES, Starfox is about as long lived as Mario, who has become Nintendo's mascot, and was Nintendo's first title to have 3D polygon graphics. It all started with a fox character named Fox McCloud and his team, and an evil monkey named Doctor Andross. Fox's team was Falco Lombardi (a falcon), Slippy toad (a frog), and Peppy Hare (a rabbit). The plot of this shooter was to pilot Fox McCloud's Arwing, a fighter jet, through the various levels and eventually end up facing Andross himself. If you were successful at this, you won the game. There were three difficulty settings – Easy, Medium, and Hard. Not much to it, but it was the beginning of a franchise, and did extremely well. However, it had to be published under the name “Starwing” in England and Australia due to copyright issues of another game in that area by the name of Starfox. It did well enough to earn its self a squeal, Starfox2, that was unreleased. It would not see a squeal until Nintendo's next home console system, the Nintendo 64. This game was called Starfox 64. Starfox 64 followed much the same plot as the original Starfox. The player had to pilot Fox McCloud's Arwing through levels of increasing difficulty, from the planet Corneria to Planet Venom, to once again come face to face with the evil Doctor Andross.
